Republican voters are falling behind economically and by every other societal standard because they vote Republican.

Access to abortion is a unifying issue

Abortion is an economic issue. Democrats should treat it as such.

@TonyStark Republican base thinks all their problems are somehow coming from liberal cities. They make their own problems by succumbing to fear spinning.
@Heimdall @TonyStark
Anyone talking about this bill in ATL to separate Buckhead into it's own city and steal a bunch of park land?

@BigAngBlack @TonyStark
White people nonsense. Imagine the schools, too.

Atlanta Republicans Want Separate City and Police Force for Wealthy

"A vote against Buckhead city is a vote FOR crime," Georgia Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene tweeted ahead of Monday's vote.

@Heimdall @BigAngBlack @TonyStark JFC. Are these people for real?

I know they are but ...

@statmonkey @Heimdall @TonyStark
The cry to "Make America Great Again" was always a call to go backwards. It's fear of equality, loss of control, manifesting into hate and legislation

@BigAngBlack @Heimdall @TonyStark

Personally, it means only one thing, stands for only one thing, and is only about one thing. Toss out "God", "patriotism", etc. like conservatism MAGA is only about "white supremacy" Always has been, and always will be.

YMMV but my personal experience is fuck these people and when they try to tell me it isn't about race I either walk away for tell them to fuck off depending on my mood. Sorry.

@BigAngBlack @statmonkey @Heimdall @TonyStark Racist-extremist "MAGA" won't be able to make today's "GOP" a majority party either.
They've already lost control to such an extent, that only voter suppression, gerrymandering & disenfranchisement get them any public offices & fraudulent majorities, which they wouldn't gain in any free & fair ellection.

Who knows a good strategy to accelerate the in-fighting inside the republican party/base and make them go to war with each other?
@BigAngBlack @TonyStark @statmonkey @ArenaCops Let them go and keep the rest of us on the relatively same page. No divide and conquer for us.

@Heimdall @BigAngBlack @TonyStark @ArenaCops
Exactly what I am trying to say. But here it is ... better:

“the opportunity of defeating the enemy is provided by the enemy himself.”

― Sun Tzu, The Art of War

Let them destroy themselves. They will.

@Heimdall @TonyStark Why is the "GOP" becoming more & more radical/extremist?
They realized, that many of their lies are increasingly failing to fall on fertile ground.

@TonyStark this post is exactly why we need quote toots cause I have commentary!

while republican in-laws think we live in big bad Detroit, every aspect of my life is notches above theirs.

@jentrification I’m sorry- I will boost your reply. It’s something else how that happens with cities.
@TonyStark no worries! you didn't make mastodon 😅
@jentrification @TonyStark I boosted also. I'd love it if Detroit could turn things around. Chicago has similar problems.

@Frankc1450 @jentrification @TonyStark Yeah, all the dumbasses here in downstate think Chicago is some sort of hellhole war zone and get upset at Chicago "dictating policy".

Except Chicagoland area is like 75% of the state population and probably close to 75% of the IL GDP.

Also, Chicago, per capita is barely top 5 for murder. If you loop in all of Chicagoland (what anyone outside the area sees as Chicago) its probably not even top ten.

Top ones per capita are like, East St Louis, and I think Danville and Rockford maybe.

But they still push that Chicago is "awful" and are campaigning to split the state in two. Its essentially just thinly veiled racism

@Noodles @jentrification @TonyStark I think of all the kids born into poverty. It's just not fair. They didn't do anything wrong. Why can't they have the same education as other kids. Not to mention healthcare and all the other ills they have to endure.

@Frankc1450 @TonyStark i will say this, what hasn't happened yet is on the horizon but this wasn't an overnight thing and it will take more work over the next decade.

we have come a long way and this news series is chronicling it https://www.freep.com/mosaic-story/news/local/detroit-is/2023/02/26/94-year-old-arthur-divers-has-never-given-up-on-serving-detroit/69925766007/

@jentrification @TonyStark what a wonderful story of a wonderful man.
Thank you😄❤️
@jentrification @TonyStark 👋🏻👋🏻Oh hai Jenifer, from the urban core of scary Charlotte! Haven’t “seen” you since the recent diaspora.
@TonyStark
Rich people think they can buy their way out of Republican-caused problems, and it seems they are right:
No local abortion? Travel.
Bad public schools? Private school.
High crime? Private security / drivers / $$$ for guns everywhere & gated communities
No Medicaid expansion? No problem.

They benefit from some, of course:
Low wages? Cheap domestic & security help!

@CKJohnsonBk @TonyStark I mean, yes. There’s a through line from chattel slavery to what you just described, which threads together US history.

“The way it is” is an ongoing attempt to keep it or bring it back to “the way it was”. It’s not a conspiracy so much as a vibe, but that doesn’t change how damaging it is to all of us, even those it supposedly helps (they don’t actually do better, they just feel superior).

@TonyStark

And yet R's in these areas continue to vote for the very people that perpetuate their problems because it's easier to blame "the other".

The politics of hate and ignorance.

@Sharonbw @TonyStark This has always been the greatest mystery to me.

The poorest of the poor. The people lacking any health care coverage. The people who are stuck in their poverty trap. The folk who are unemployable because they can't afford education.

The people working at the whim of a dictatorial employer with no govt. oversight.

Their whole life is a misery, yet many/most vote for the R party who ideologically perpetuates this misery.

Talk about cut off your nose to spite your face!

@Sharonbw @TonyStark For all the faults of Joe Bageant, his "Deer Hunting with Jesus" nicely encapsulates the paradox that poor disenfranchised R voters continue to vote against their own self-interest.

I guess you could argue that such voters view their lives as secondary to ideology. But have they really made this decision consciously rather than robotically? I'm skeptical.

@TonyStark This TOTALLY rings true in my home state. Now with Sarah Huckleberry Slanders as Governor, it will speed slide into even worse conditions.
@AnnMorris I’m sorry you’re stuck with her.
@AnnMorris @TonyStark It's like watching a drunk drive a car off a cliff. I'm cringing at the collateral damage; heartbreaking.
@TonyStark The more Republicans fall behind because they vote for Republicans, the more they will blame liberals and the left for their problems.
@TonyStark Definitely applies to Texas. We are speeding backwards straight to hell thanks to Republican pols—actually talking up secession ffs. Lying basturds and beeches gaslighting millions thru either hapless or colluding media. I’m 6th generation and want to move.
@adriennelacava @TonyStark Don't move. Stand & fight! I live in Florida and will stay and fight DeSantis' fascism
@Quest4Blackbeard @TonyStark Oh okay… But I’m old and tired. Been hanging around fighting for a long time, mostly to improve voter turnout. Like most places, when our turnout is strong, Dems win. Gopers have made it obscenely hard to vote.
@TonyStark grievance politics be like
@TonyStark
problem is that they are too stupid to realize it is because of the Rs and they blame the Ds
@TonyStark If we simply stop teaching kids about statistics and the meaning of 'per capita', then the murder rate will be higher in blue states. problem solved. /s

@TonyStark

Yes, but they have churches on every corner, and entire social services ecosystems run by conservative Christian religious communities - often under government contract. This is the world they want to live in, one where there is only one way to live.

@TonyStark it's usually not Republican voters who suffer. The red suburban ring around every city gets decent schools, decent health care, and policing that protects them from the "others" who are the ones actually suffering all these bad effects

@TonyStark

Abortion rights are popular across a surprisingly WIDE variety of people in the USA.

Probably because legal abortion is part of the recipe for economic success.

“When women enjoy basic human rights and self-determination, they, their families and their countries flourish.”

Marjorie Taylor Greene’s Hollywood rant is detached from reality

Marjorie-Taylor Greene has been rattling on about a “national divorce.” Her idea to keep entertainment workers from moving to Georgia may be the craziest part.

MSNBC

@TonyStark Which makes absolute sense. Their whole mission is to create some illusionary fantasy land where people who aren't themselves just simply want to be removed and destroyed.

You can't do that and survive in a society. They have spent the better part of 40 years trying to convince us that they are the way and the light and finally have enough people to carry their message that they think they can compel action.

It won't work. It never works. It's one of the key reasons therapy has to be collaborative. I can make you listen, I can make you sit, I can't make you hear. I can't make you internalize. That's entirely on you.

Its the internalization that hurts so bad. They have to see and own that they are wrong.

@TonyStark
Their goal is not to level things by pulling themselves up, it's to level things by bringing others down.

@TonyStark The "GOP" — an organization, that cares to be careless, even about the lives of the people, who vote for it.
