CEO of Block Party, Tracy Chou, is resentful that "tech people" have migrated away from Twitter and are now using Mastodon.

She doesn't want to spend time here but she must because so much important stuff pertaining to her job gets discussed here—not on Twitter.

The network effect of the Fediverse is working!

“ngl i am very resentful that i have to spend time on mastodon and linkedin now that so many tech people are migrating off twitter”

Twitter
@atomicpoet i wonder why people actually prefer twitter to fedi (any network effects notwithstanding)

@Rairii I imagine there's many reasons:

1. Resistance to change
2. Preference for centralization
3. Better relevancy algorithms

Many people like Twitter for reasons that I don't.

@atomicpoet @Rairii
4 it has been around for 20 years
5 lots of celebrities and news outlets are producing content there.
@Rairii @atomicpoet I've definitely seen some discussion of the *lack* of algorithmic timeline lately

(namely, that people want what they feel are high-quality posts to be prioritized, so they don't have to read *every* post made by any of the people they follow to get the highlights)

tough to do it right, and so much corporate social media uses it for rage-baiting, though
@Rairii @atomicpoet (honestly, where I want algorithmic timeline is my *RSS reader*, not Fedi - I don't give a single shit about high school sports, which is like half of my local newspaper, but I do care about other news)
@atomicpoet @fediversenews Ho. Did you catch Apartheid Tony Stark’s response that he hopes we stay here?
@aethervision @fediversenews Yep, I'm going to talk about that in a few minutes.
@atomicpoet @fediversenews Yet another argument for the Fediverse. If all the social networks involved were federated, it wouldn't matter where all the tech people had migrated.
@atomicpoet @fediversenews And this dude who spends all day trying to get Elon Musk to reply to him says people on Mastodon are unlikely to say anything worth hearing. Okay.
@mattisenhower @atomicpoet "the people who migrated to those platforms are unlikely to say anything worth hearing"
@atomicpoet @fediversenews Kind of wild that someone who claims to want to solve online harassment is uninterested in what is going on here.

@teleclimber @atomicpoet Kinda wild in missing the big picture, but probably not surprising she has this outlook because her entire business is based on people using Twitter.

A shift away from Twitter kinda obliterates her entire business, and clearly she's in the denial phase of grief over it.

@fediversenews

@nikkiana @atomicpoet @fediversenews Yes. She's in the business of monetizing the toxicity of Twitter.
@nikkiana @teleclimber @atomicpoet @fediversenews what a weird take for her to have, though. Harassment will happen in the fediverse, too. Her business should be even easier to port to an ecosystem with open APIs. Such stockholm syndrome vibes 😥

@jesseplusplus Yeah, I agree. It's a really short-sighted view to have, but after taking a look at her LinkedIn.... I definitely get why she probably thinks the way she does.

She's neck deep in NYC tech hustle culture. I might be reading into it based on my own experiences with tech in NYC, but what I read into that tweet is a woman who just smacked her face straight into burnout because she has to learn a new platform (Mastodon/Fediverse) AND keep up with one she doesn't like (LinkedIn) because the industry is in state of pivot in a direction she wouldn't prefer.

I don't blame her for feeling how she feels, but I do think she's incredibly steeped in the ivy league to tech rockstar pipeline, and if she has the financial means to do so I'd definitely advise her to take a step back from all of it for awhile.

@nikkiana that's an interesting perspective. I could totally see that. I already feel that with trying to keep up with all the slack channels my networks have splintered into 😂
@atomicpoet @fediversenews We don't want people to be resentful of Mastodon! Maybe people will end up liking it, but it is also possible that this interaction with Mastodon will make them not want to engage with Mastodon in a positive manner. Granted It would be stupid to ignore the pros of this as well, but still my point stands.
@BrendanDN @fediversenews To be specific, she's resentful we're on Mastodon and not Twitter. That's her complaint.

@atomicpoet @BrendanDN @fediversenews

The first 30 or so tweets in the thread of comments were more unpleasant to read than I expected. So much negativity, in multiple directions.

After a few months here, I am no more used to that. Goes to show there is no law of nature that says "The Internet is just like that." Each corner of the Net is what we make it into, and I am a sucker for kindness and constructive discussions.

@atomicpoet @fediversenews
OK, shocked now that someone _wants_ to spend time on LinkedIn. 😳
@atomicpoet @fediversenews  tbh, looks like this is not a fun person... i dont mind if tech people who dont see the awesomeness of this network do stay away from it
