Climate activist jailed for eight weeks for contempt of court, because he refused to apologize for saying the reason they were demonstrating, the climate, during the trial.

They were forbidden from mentioning climate during the trial for demonstrating.

Insulate Britain activist jailed for eight weeks for contempt of court

David Nixon disobeyed judge’s order not to mention climate crisis as motivation during trial over road-blocking protest

The Guardian

The purpose of the court is to determine justice.

To judge. If the government says justice may not be found, if defense is disallowed, 👈 the principle of the court's existence is missing, the foundation of justice is removed.

The defendents MAY NOT cite defenses of their actions.

Britain has gelded its courts.

______

To say nothing of the climate crisis, your concerns for our environment are automatically turned into evidence to jail you.

Sanity is a guilty plea in Tory Britain. 👈🇬🇧

@kevinrns What the hell is the court’s logic for this? It makes no sense.
@kevinrns Gobsmacking! I’ve had some discussions recently about the term climate “activist,” and whether there might be another term that could be brought to usage. It seems to be the case that when referred to as an activist, it has negative connotations and brings almost implicit impatience.

@itwasntme

I don't know any of those people.

Hmm perhaps economist, one recent study suggested British Columbia suffered over an 11 Billion dollar economic loss, in one year, to destructive climate chaos, on top of the necessary spending to restore multiple bridges, kilometers of highways, which will be be paid through taxes.

They also lost six hundred people to heat death on the floors of their homes that year.

Some of your impatient acquaintances like to talk taxes right?

@itwasntme

climate advocate?

@kevinrns

@jesuisatire @itwasntme

Solution Suggestionist.

@kevinrns

what solution?
there is no solution.

well, that makes "Suggestionist" quite a correct option.

@itwasntme

@jesuisatire @itwasntme

There is no solution to burning carbon?

@kevinrns

Actually there are some coal mines somewhere that are burning underground and they aren't able to clear (löschen) them as for what I understand.

Also, pooring water on wooden burning carbon is ideal for to improve it to make terra preta.

A solution to "western civilization" and the american-european way of life on this limited planet?

.. nope, sorry, nothing in sight ..
:(

@itwasntme
(and yes, it was you too, and me ..)

@jesuisatire @itwasntme

No, sorry. Its carbon, not apartments, not swag, not brexit, nor sexy music. Its Carbon.

And Carbon is being ended, must be ended faster.

No idea what you're satirizing.

@kevinrns
> No, sorry. Its carbon

Not satirizing in this case.

What is carbon?
Coal is not carbon?
Only coal or carbon out of wood is creating a "surplus" of CO2?
Oil isn't carbon?
Gas is neither?
Los of species and biodiversity isn't part of the problem of the "western civilization" way of life?
Consumerism wasting the equivalent of 3 to 5 planets per year is not the problem but carbon?

Can you please define what you mean by "carbon"?

@itwasntme

@jesuisatire @itwasntme

Carbon when burned grows to more than 4x its size, adding 2 oxygen atoms. the resulting molecule has the capacity to 'hold' heat better than the historic atmosphere.

So solar energy coming through the air, and reflected light from he surface, have MORE energy absorbed into air, adding heat, unbalancing the ecosystem. Melting ice, drying forest soils, heating the atmosphere to deadly.

The unbalance causes storms, excessive or reduced rain, and fires

@kevinrns

thx for the explanation.

It's kinda difficult some times to know or understand what people or societies (in the means of "in the US", "in the UK", "the Aussies") understand under certain terms.

Or as the chemistry professor in the university put it:
"Carbon -> "C" is of the most common elements on this planet. You find it in granite and marbel, pencils, even in diamonds.

/ironic satire:
> Diamonds, when burned grow to more than double its size ..

¡what?

@itwasntme

@jesuisatire @itwasntme

Our environment cleared carbon as fast as it can, for the first hundred years of oil.

Carbon dioxide, in concentration, is absorbed into the ocean.

Unfortunately when carbon dioxide is absorbed in the sea, it becomes carbonic acid.

Ocean acidification, from burning carbon, is a direct threat, literally causing a sea change that is threatening the fundamental chemical balance of ocean waters. We get a lot of our oxygen from sea life.

Rising CO2 concentrations in the atmosphere are changing the chemistry of the ocean, and putting marine life in danger.

agreed
we definitely need some terra forming work out here.
👍

Actually we could even burn some carbon to do that I guess:

I seen the story of an american coal mine fire, which has been burning for 50 years. I looked it up, here's the link.

There's also the "gates of hell" gas crater, burning since the 80's in Turkmenistan.

@kevinrns Saying that ‘Britain is a failed state’ is somewhat of an understatement. Britain has never succeeded by normal means, rather it bullies and beats its way to what its ruling elite deem success.
Laws protect property and not people and judges are the product of their privilege - they exist to maintain the lies and dictats of the powerful and can choose what is and is not ‘reality’ for them. All courts are contemptible.

@kevinrns

welcome to the civilized world of "shit hole countrys" ..

@jeffjarvis

@kevinrns Sworn to tell only the truth in court, unless it’s inconvenient to rich people.

@kevinrns

I guess all the "free speech absolutists" are going completely apoplectic over this, aren't they?

@kevinrns
I didn't expect the Spanish Inquisition.
@kevinrns A clarion call for all of us to join Nixon in civil disobedience and other forms of protest. If our legal systems are organized in such a way that speaking obvious, simple, and apparent truths is forbidden, they must be confronted and reorganized without delay.

@keke

And smartly, and safely, and obviously.

Confront the issue

@kevinrns
Just one failed judge unfit for his office,. Don't get too far ahead of yourself..

@kennethb

No the new Tory laws of oppression are laws, not rogue judges.

The Guardian
@kevinrns
That essentially true, but we were talking about one judge, making one ridiculous judgement, in one case. The laws you speak of are not yet enacted, Others are awaiting Lords interventions. We do of course, need to oppose them root and branch.

@kennethb

There are several ways to itemize each of the hundred ways ways the social contract now being shredded still has participants and agreements that will continue working for months.

But the Toey damage is not small, its fatal.

Playing it down isnt a path home.

@kevinrns
You are correct in the first part. I certainly would never play it down. Check all my posts and tweets and FB messages. These bastards are fascists, and have to be stopped, that is clear.

@kevinrns Probably thinks a jury might have a couple or three people on it who would not find someone guilty if they knew that it was intended to oppose climate damage, as well as people freezing and starving.

Might be right.

@midgephoto

I cannot think of any reason to prevent testimony except that it would alter jury opinion.

@kevinrns I believe we have a photo...

@kevinrns "interesting" logic from the judge here. If I'm interpreting correctly their reasoning was that it isn't the place of the court to decide if the action was justified or not, only if I was a crime.

This possibly links back to the idea a jury can chose to find someone not guilty even if they believe they are guilty, I believe called jury nullification? So they may have decided non-guilty from an ethical view not a criminal view.

Note I'm not a lawyer so blah blah blah.

@kevinrns
This seems to be completely bonkers!
@kevinrns fascism isn’t just loitering in the shadows of the woods anymore, it is bolting out from the tree line straight into the pasture.
@kevinrns You don't say. IMO not only 'failed' but pariah nation.
@kevinrns Civil disobedience at its finest. When a law, or judicial ruling, is unjust, you break it and take the consequences to shine a light on the injustice.

@lobsterofrevenge

Justice, it is awfully Canadian to say, must not only be done, it must be seen to be done.

Those actions and decisions, call the system of Justice itself into question, and that by itself is enough ro waive the trial in its entirety. And bring the law that caused it, into question.

Justice cannot be performed while those are the rules of its execution. One would say.

@kevinrns Good on him for refusing to recant his "heresy" even when pressed though. Not all of us would.
@kevinrns I don’t know of anyplace that is NOT a failed state.
