Climate activist jailed for eight weeks for contempt of court, because he refused to apologize for saying the reason they were demonstrating, the climate, during the trial.

They were forbidden from mentioning climate during the trial for demonstrating.

HOLY SHIT, BRITAIN IS A FAILED STATE

Insulate Britain activist jailed for eight weeks for contempt of court

David Nixon disobeyed judge’s order not to mention climate crisis as motivation during trial over road-blocking protest

@kevinrns Gobsmacking! I’ve had some discussions recently about the term climate “activist,” and whether there might be another term that could be brought to usage. It seems to be the case that when referred to as an activist, it has negative connotations and brings almost implicit impatience.

@itwasntme

climate advocate?

@kevinrns

@jesuisatire @itwasntme

Solution Suggestionist.

@kevinrns

what solution?
there is no solution.

well, that makes "Suggestionist" quite a correct option.

@itwasntme

@jesuisatire @itwasntme

There is no solution to burning carbon?

@kevinrns

Actually there are some coal mines somewhere that are burning underground and they aren't able to clear (löschen) them as for what I understand.

Also, pooring water on wooden burning carbon is ideal for to improve it to make terra preta.

A solution to "western civilization" and the american-european way of life on this limited planet?

.. nope, sorry, nothing in sight ..
:(

@itwasntme
(and yes, it was you too, and me ..)

@jesuisatire @itwasntme

No, sorry. Its carbon, not apartments, not swag, not brexit, nor sexy music. Its Carbon.

And Carbon is being ended, must be ended faster.

No idea what you're satirizing.

@kevinrns
> No, sorry. Its carbon

Not satirizing in this case.

What is carbon?
Coal is not carbon?
Only coal or carbon out of wood is creating a "surplus" of CO2?
Oil isn't carbon?
Gas is neither?
Los of species and biodiversity isn't part of the problem of the "western civilization" way of life?
Consumerism wasting the equivalent of 3 to 5 planets per year is not the problem but carbon?

Can you please define what you mean by "carbon"?

@itwasntme

@jesuisatire @itwasntme

Carbon when burned grows to more than 4x its size, adding 2 oxygen atoms. the resulting molecule has the capacity to 'hold' heat better than the historic atmosphere.

So solar energy coming through the air, and reflected light from he surface, have MORE energy absorbed into air, adding heat, unbalancing the ecosystem. Melting ice, drying forest soils, heating the atmosphere to deadly.

The unbalance causes storms, excessive or reduced rain, and fires

@kevinrns

thx for the explanation.

It's kinda difficult some times to know or understand what people or societies (in the means of "in the US", "in the UK", "the Aussies") understand under certain terms.

Or as the chemistry professor in the university put it:
"Carbon -> "C" is of the most common elements on this planet. You find it in granite and marbel, pencils, even in diamonds.

/ironic satire:
> Diamonds, when burned grow to more than double its size ..

¡what?

@itwasntme

@jesuisatire @itwasntme

Our environment cleared carbon as fast as it can, for the first hundred years of oil.

Carbon dioxide, in concentration, is absorbed into the ocean.

Unfortunately when carbon dioxide is absorbed in the sea, it becomes carbonic acid.

Ocean acidification, from burning carbon, is a direct threat, literally causing a sea change that is threatening the fundamental chemical balance of ocean waters. We get a lot of our oxygen from sea life.

CO2 and Ocean Acidification: Causes, Impacts, Solutions

Rising CO2 concentrations in the atmosphere are changing the chemistry of the ocean, and putting marine life in danger.
