I have non-techy friends who probably have no clue that Twitter was even sold, and if they aren’t ready to leave I don’t hold it against them. But my friends in tech and the major tech influencers with large followings? They know exactly what’s up and I’m increasingly frustrated that they refuse to let go.
i don't get how the same people (in many cases journalists) who see reporters capriciously blocked on Twitter, know it's a rigged game there, and also see leader Elon elevate Q-esque conspiracy theories that normalize violence (and also target minorities)[0], Elon begging the Q-forward and violence-normalizing Trump to come back on, etc etc... *also* think it's very cool to tweet about **inane sports shit** on the bird app. Can they not help themselves? @caseynewton “I don’t tweet THAT much.”
My friends with a bookbinder:
@caseynewton 1. ADHD is real.
2. Some tasks are easy and help to distract and focus while your brain does it's thing.
3. Doing a low effort/fun activity in parallel helps with concentration of the more difficult / less fun needed work.
4. Our working hours and/or days off may not align.
5. Are you a cop? 🙃
@caseynewton what's really weird to me is the random accounts just tweeting out dumb sht. like absolutely nothing is going on around them.
i've learned a lot in the past few years about how little effort people will make to modify any of their behavior, even if that very slight modification could have a massive benefit.
@caseynewton Some people have to maintain social presences on sinking ships for survival. Whether it's to support their business or party or an online network of support that hasn't migrated elsewhere.
It's a privilege to be able to cut ties.
@caseynewton For as long as big brands keep using it to excite people it will be doing fine.

When accounts like those disappear then it's dead, not earlier.
I'm surprised about Apple though @pschiller did take a jump, but I don't quite understand his Fellow status there, it's not deciding part anymore.
If we see @[email protected] then Mastodon has arrived.
@caseynewton never underestimate the power that inertia exerts on humans.
Or, as Edgar Rice Burroughs said “We are, all of us, creatures of habit”.
@caseynewton do you mean tweeting used as a genericised term or ‘Tweeting’ as in specifically using the bird site?
The former is just a form of social interaction in a digital-enabled age.
If you mean the latter the better question to ask is, ‘why is your employer continuing to spend ad money on a site that tolerates hate speech and replatforms bigots and conspiracy theorists?’ rather than going after the little guy.
