It's so weird to me to see people tweeting every day. Like what are you doing
@caseynewton Won’t see me on that list. Finally shut it all down.
@caseynewton I had to go over there to find a link I’d bookmarked and it was *so weird* seeing people just going about their business, writing their tweets, posting their memes. I think I assumed everyone in their right mind had ditched that shithole but apparaenrly not.

@stu

I have non-techy friends who probably have no clue that Twitter was even sold, and if they aren’t ready to leave I don’t hold it against them. But my friends in tech and the major tech influencers with large followings? They know exactly what’s up and I’m increasingly frustrated that they refuse to let go.

@caseynewton especially journalists who know better but can't help but tweet their pointless/vapid takes on sports. just log in during the superbowl to see what i mean https://journa.host/@spencerdailey/109779418051294443
Spencer Dailey (@[email protected])

i don't get how the same people (in many cases journalists) who see reporters capriciously blocked on Twitter, know it's a rigged game there, and also see leader Elon elevate Q-esque conspiracy theories that normalize violence (and also target minorities)[0], Elon begging the Q-forward and violence-normalizing Trump to come back on, etc etc... *also* think it's very cool to tweet about **inane sports shit** on the bird app. Can they not help themselves? @spencerdailey @caseynewton
Do you need to log in to see? I wouldn't...
@caseynewton Yeah, I feel like „why are you tweeting if you can toot“? Really weird…
@caseynewton slowly chipping away at their humanity
@caseynewton , a while back I went on Twitter too much. Generally replying to people who I disagreed with. Probably half of them trolls. The best thing was getting off the shite. Same with FB. All I do now is read tweets without an account. It's way better. Screw twitchan. Especially now it's being turned into an Elon cult.

@caseynewton “I don’t tweet THAT much.”

My friends with a bookbinder:

@Quinnypig @caseynewton In other words Corey - your friends threw the book at you?
@caseynewton Dear Twitter: I ate a hamburger today...

It finally doesn't taste like dirt.
@caseynewton you should tweet this out to help migration:
@caseynewton The desperate scramble to join #Mastodon and other alternatives was interpreted as a protest against Musk, and in some cases it was, but I think I failed to see that for a lot more people, it was just a matter of looking for spots in lifeboats when they thought the ship was about to sink, and as soon as they realized that Twitter was still afloat and a lot of people had stayed on it, they climbed right back on board, happily ignoring the fact that the captain is an immoral tyrant.
@caseynewton
I don't see that because I no longer go on Twitter every day and I unfollowed all of my personal contacts in order to end my addiction. I check local/political news every 2-3 days.
@caseynewton I just like to tippy tap on my phone most days
@caseynewton I still use twitter to yell at city agencies
@caseynewton Because for some of us from authoritarian countries Twitter was and is still where the network is when it comes to informing people about what’s going on. I’m not happy about it and tried to leave but not everyone else did so it’s hard to break off completely.

@caseynewton 1. ADHD is real.

2. Some tasks are easy and help to distract and focus while your brain does it's thing.

3. Doing a low effort/fun activity in parallel helps with concentration of the more difficult / less fun needed work.

4. Our working hours and/or days off may not align.

5. Are you a cop? 🙃

@caseynewton Right, they should be publishing.
@caseynewton I haven’t tweeted in months and it feels so good.

@caseynewton what's really weird to me is the random accounts just tweeting out dumb sht. like absolutely nothing is going on around them.

i've learned a lot in the past few years about how little effort people will make to modify any of their behavior, even if that very slight modification could have a massive benefit.

@caseynewton my friends have a phrases for the townies that go to the same dive bar every night: Circling the drain.
@caseynewton Funny, I never see people tweeting.

@caseynewton Some people have to maintain social presences on sinking ships for survival. Whether it's to support their business or party or an online network of support that hasn't migrated elsewhere.

It's a privilege to be able to cut ties.

@caseynewton still mostly my scheduled tweets … no one listened before so no change there since the Emperor and his new clothes

@caseynewton For as long as big brands keep using it to excite people it will be doing fine.

When accounts like those disappear then it's dead, not earlier.

I'm surprised about Apple though @pschiller did take a jump, but I don't quite understand his Fellow status there, it's not deciding part anymore.

If we see @[email protected] then Mastodon has arrived.

Twitter
@caseynewton just once per day? Yeah that's like a baby's account.

@caseynewton never underestimate the power that inertia exerts on humans.

Or, as Edgar Rice Burroughs said “We are, all of us, creatures of habit”.

@caseynewton I’m livin’ my life CASEY!
@caseynewton previously I was watching Parliament

@caseynewton do you mean tweeting used as a genericised term or ‘Tweeting’ as in specifically using the bird site?

The former is just a form of social interaction in a digital-enabled age.

If you mean the latter the better question to ask is, ‘why is your employer continuing to spend ad money on a site that tolerates hate speech and replatforms bigots and conspiracy theorists?’ rather than going after the little guy.

@caseynewton Elon bootlickers or attention-whores.
@caseynewton I know. I’m only a lurker on Twitter three days, and then mostly to block the accounts that advertise there. Contributing to engagement on that platform is a choice.
@caseynewton I'm a heavy user, I tweet multiple times per day and I try to get on mastodon and counter social every day as well 😀
@caseynewton Multitasking, with ‘tweeting’ the priority. ROFL.
