The tape-tearing tiktok you didn’t know you needed:

@histoftech today's life ninja award goes to that guy.

Head canon updated.

@histoftech that was a fucking revelation!
@histoftech I worked as a theatre stage manager for years and never figured this out. I'm horrified at myself.

@jensilber @histoftech
I'm curious - is this tape trick listed in The Backstage Handbook?

"Backstage Handbook: An Illustrated Almanac of Technical Information"
by Paul Carter

@histoftech this is wonderful, how did I live this many years without knowing this?
@histoftech Nice! I've been using bread tags for this but for lots of tape this is way more convenient.
@histoftech @chockenberry oh, this has changed my life. Same as the “overworked and underpaid” approach to cables https://youtu.be/kda4DPAn3C4

@afterxleep Wow, that method of packing audio cables would have saved me countless hours of lifetime during the ~15 years of volunteering at events. Did almost similarly, but only rolled the cable to one direction. Two way method looks so much better for keeping cables organized. I wish someone would have shown it before. 😧
@autiomaa oh yea, and also extends the life of the cable as the fibers don’t get twisted over time.
@histoftech this is *deeply* satisfying
@histoftech oh that's easier than folding it back on itself to create the tab that I've been doing!
@histoftech
The carabiner/cord combo for carrying the tapes is also a good idea.
I have a few cords like that, but made from scrap cord with a small bowline tied at each end.
@histoftech this was a critical element of new hire training when office fridges were a part of my life.
@histoftech this is the most important content since I learned how to peel sticky notes. https://youtu.be/PIXpbRz1Bmg
How to Peel a Post it Note

@histoftech courtesy tabs! A thing I learned from an old roommate who was in the production trades
@histoftech @Drwave I misread that as tape-eating and then I was really disappointed even though it’s all my fault
@histoftech This is almost what I do, but the angling & tear-off is so much neater tysm!!

@histoftech @gruber does the tape-tearing community on tiktok call itself TapeTok or TikTape?

(try saying that question 5 times quickly. or 1 time at any speed 😵‍💫)

@histoftech that is genius. Question is, will I remember it next time I am using tape…
@histoftech why do I hate myself even more for not knowing this? 😂
@[email protected] This was great. Thanks for sharing.
@histoftech @11thJeff never in a zillion years would I have gotten this over at The Bad Place and OMG I so needed this LMAO
@histoftech ok. that was incredibly useful advice.
@histoftech Can confirm from experience. Also, the triangular method help when making improvised attachements for microphones on clothes with tapes, in order to prevent a maximum of clothing scratch on the mic, by doing a "samoussa" fold. Also, this is gaffer, not really tape adhesive, but that method in the video applies to both.
