Say hellohttps://lrg.io/hello/

Hello!

I'm a senior software engineer with ~19 years of professional experience, specialising in low-level systems programming, embedded, infrastructure, and performance-critical software.

I've worked across kernel-level, embedded, and application layers. I've done everything from small time application work to environments where problems are complex, failure is expensive, and correctness matters.

Selected experience:

  • Built and shipped a Rust-based OpenSSL engine for an HSM as a contractor for Microsoft
  • Worked on a RISC-V MCU emulator
  • Bootstrapped a Rust toolchain from mrustc in a production environment
  • Developed tooling for container image ecosystems, including an image linter
  • Background in hosting/infrastructure environments
  • Mentored others in Rust
  • Experience contributing to a wide variety of FOSS projects
  • Former director of a non-profit (team leadership, operations, decision-making)

My core skills:

  • Languages: C, C++, Rust, Python, (plus working JavaScript)
  • Systems: low-level development, kernel-adjacent work, embedded systems, Linux and POSIX systems
  • Tooling: ASan, GCC analyser, Coverity, CI/CD (GitHub Actions, Azure DevOps)
  • Practises: TDD, custom test harnesses, strong debugging discipline
  • Areas: concurrency/async systems, network servers, inter-language interop, cryptography, performance optimisation, debugging

What I bring to the table:

  • Experience: I have worked in all company sizes, from tiny startups to big companies
  • Deep experience with debugging: I can solve complex, non-obvious failures
  • Strong systems background: memory, concurrency, and performance are core strengths
  • Breadth: I can move between low-level and higher-level work as needed
  • Pragmatism: I focus on shipping reliable, maintainable systems

What I'm looking for:

  • Fully remote if possible
  • Async-friendly teams (PDT-based)
  • Open to full-time or contract
  • Compensation: $135k+ depending on scope
  • Medium to long-term work preferred, but I'll take what I can get
  • Preferably #NoAI but beggars can't be choosers

If you or your company are building infrastructure, systems software, or anything performance-sensitive, I'm likely to be a strong fit 🙂.

Ok, small experiment to see if this scales…

We've developed a new open standard to create the best music experience across multiple devices and rooms. It's called Sendspin.

You can try it in the latest release of @musicassistant, or try the live demo on our website:

Let me know what you think!

An honest, but unappealing offer.

Ahhh, so that's the end of the BBC then. YouTube exec becomes DG.

My prediction? Shortly, the BBC loses its charter and becomes an IP license business, producing only nature documentaries and 24-hour news. iPlayer a nostalgia YouTube channel.
On the hit list will be local and national radio, with any good content / talent being harvested for monetized podcasts.
Children's programming will just evaporate.
Events sold to LiveNation. R&D gone.

Who is the BBC's new director general?

The BBC's Noor Nanji gives us an insight into the ex-Google boss confirmed as the BBC's new Director General.

An honest, but unappealing offer.

Wild that America has a president who regularly goes “I’ll start World War 3” to tank the stock market and then at the last minute says “j/k I’m not invading Greenland/Iran/Canada/etc” then the market jumps back up with mysterious people making a killing after he backs down.

An amazing coincidence.

UPDATE (March 26,2026) Submissions are closed. Thanks so much everyone who submitted! there were over 70 submissions, so please be patient while I review all of them. If you still want to be part of a freelance roster, I created a section in the website for that:

I'm so proud of this. Dr G and the team at Wimpole do amazing work, whilst also managing one of the largest NT properties.
