Personally, I think it’s weird that a giant tech monopoly (Google) gets a pass for indexing the Fediverse, but if a hobbyist wants to build Fediverse search, they are looked upon with suspicion.

This makes no sense.

@waltmossberg Proud for good reason. Will never, ever forget the interview you did with Steve Jobs and Bill Gates. For anyone out there interested, here it is: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-LUGU0xprUo

@mmasnick I think this is fantastic. While I’ll probably always be one of those folks who prefers self hosting, I think it’s great if people join the Fediverse through a brand they trust. Some may stay in the manicured gardens, some may set up their own estates, and others may venture off into the wilds.

It feels like the early days of the internet again.

Cool to see @medium continuing to push forward into the fediverse. Between this, and @Flipboard last week, starting to see how companies can embrace the fediverse in interesting ways...

Exciting to see more and more companies and orgs get on the #FediVerse / #ActivityPub train. I think it's safe to say we're past the tipping point. It's gone into a self-reinforcing phase, and we'll see where things go from here.
What do you think of the sound on Apple devices? I'm always impressed with how good it sounds on MacBooks, iPads and now especially the homepods. Their audio team is doing a great job across the board. Seems they still need to work on wireless streaming though...

I obviously have no say on Mastodon's future development, but I've already brought up comment control as an official feature request in Mastodon's Github repo.

In fact, I made this suggestion back in November. Here it is:

https://github.com/mastodon/mastodon/discussions/21444

I bring this conversation up again because I think it's worth having.

It's worth discussing how we can make the Fediverse better.

[FEATURE REQUEST] Turn off comments · mastodon mastodon · Discussion #21444

When writing a post, have the ability to turn off comments from others. This is useful for when you want to broadcast a message, but do not want to engage in a conversation or have that conversatio...

This is an incredible documentary on the year of war in Ukraine, with full access to the president and top military officials, as well as a look at the human cost of the murderous invasion.

@blake By replying to @fediversenews, you are participating in the group. That is, you’re sharing your post to what’s considered a group actor.

Mastodon doesn’t officially support groups, but Friendica does. However, Mastodon interprets group sharing as boosts.

Remember: while Mastodon is part of the Fediverse, it is not the Fediverse.
