Elon confirms Cybertruck video is of a “very close to production” prototype. Lemme just say two things:

1) Pontiac Aztek
2) Yiiiiikes

Elon Musk on Twitter

“@DriveTeslaca Yeah. Still many small tweaks to make it better (and the side mirrors are removable by owner), but this is very close to production design.”

Twitter

@snazzyq Yikes!

It appears the Musk #Cybertruck is about as attractive and
unwieldy as the Musk #Twitter...

@masey @snazzyq sorry, you guys are wrong, the Cybertruck is awesome :) Straight out of a dystopian nightmare. I totally expect to be shovelling bodies with it, while carrying spare parts for my cybernetic workshop. Though I admit Tesla as a company has lost some of its appeal lately…
@Setok @masey @snazzyq This always makes me think of the movie "The Running Man", which included this car. And that was about a dystopian future.

@internic @masey @snazzyq precisely! Also this one from Blade Runner:

@internic @masey @snazzyq I mean, basically Elon has modelled his goals on Blade Runner. Spaceships to Mars, androids, Cybertrucks. Quite how Twitter fits into all of that is a mystery, but there you go.
@snazzyq I know taste is subjective, but I’ll subjectively maintain that that is a goddamn ugly ‘truck’.
@snazzyq are they using any final treatment on the body panels or its just bare metal?
@snazzyq dude. I didn’t realize it was THAT big.
@joeltelling @snazzyq The only way this can exist, in my opinion, is the US's lack of pedestrian safety requirements. It's a low poly render come to life in the worst way possible.
@eguidry @snazzyq like, HOW will you be able to see anyone in a crosswalk at all?
@snazzyq it can't be just me, who thinks this "thing" is so damn ugly beyond any repair... Maybe if it was first to the market, some people (not me) could overlook the design, but now, with all the other EV pickup trucks already available? Yeah, good luck selling that "thing"...
@snazzyq The front 3/4 angle was growing on me but the back is not at all
@snazzyq It seems like it's even uglier than the prototype I saw at the launch event... which is saying something.
@snazzyq It looks to me like it's designed to kill pedestrians. It will never be sold in Europe because it will never pass pedestrian safety standards. https://www.motoringresearch.com/car-news/tesla-cybertruck-not-legal-europe/
Why the Tesla Cybertruck won't be legal in Europe

The radical Tesla Cybertruck will require 'strong modifications to the basic structure' to be made legal for sale in Europe, according to a TUV expert.

Motoring Research
@snazzyq The Aztek did it way better.
@snazzyq this thing is remarkable. i feel like it burned out a fuse in my brain and now i don't even know where to start deconstructing design issues when i see this. i just start laughing like an idiot
@snazzyq side mirrors removable by owner. Sounds safe!

@snazzyq I’m glad I’m not the only one who remembers the Aztek, and how ugly it was.

I mean sad. I’m sad for us.

@snazzyq My first thought when seeing the thumbnail: Who put a speedcam trailer (german thing) on a desert street?!

@snazzyq that is easily the ugliest car in the history of cars, and will surely be the only thing better than a blue check mark to identity an Elon Stan.

(Also we should start calling the Elon worshipers “muskrats.”)

@snazzyq Hey wait I like the Aztek. Had a lot of neat features.
@snazzyq this is insulting to the Aztek.
@caseyliss @snazzyq Walter White rolling in his grave

@snazzyq when it was revealed, there was a collective "so bad it's good", combined with "the emperor's wearing a lovely robe" narrative that carried it.

The recent "he's not the Messiah he's a naughty boy" scales falling from eyes, along with passage of time will not be kind to this vehicle's chances.

@snazzyq I’ll keep my early reservation in case there is a nice market for them but my excitement is definitely very low. Now my heart waits for the Sierra EV…
@snazzyq Wished you had a podcast, ngl
@snazzyq the industrial design of the cyber truck has always been bad in my eyes.
@snazzyq The design still has my heart, but man, i just wish it was built to be driven by people.
Pontiac Aztek
@snazzyq no two words have ever been so scathing.
@snazzyq other drivers are going to hate them. That sun reflection is going to be terrible.
@snazzyq but the Pontiac Aztec looks cool and weird...
@snazzyq BMW take care! There is a new challenger for the title of ugliest car in town!

@snazzyq Like so many
concept cars the cyber truck is an intriguing idea and thought exercise until it starts taking shape in the realities of daily life.

Windshield/dashboard bigger than an Oldsmobile silhouette.
Body panels that learned nothing about long term ownership from a DeLorean.
And the already mentioned Aztek with its promises of unimaginable adaptivity and versatility.
