time to post again the best user interface i've ever seen
@ranjit Good, but the down button is an unnecessary complication.
@ross @ranjit I doubt if it's actually connected. Like the turn signals on a BMW.
@wren @ross @ranjit omg I had one as a loaner and I was soooo confused.
@wren @ross @ranjit Wait. In this theory, #BMW *drivers* are really nice but slightly naive people and the *cars* are to blame for making them appear to be assholes? Does this pass the smell test?
@davidr @ross @ranjit moreso that the manufacturer saves money by not installing something that will never be missed.
Large Onion Peeler - M&P Engineering

M&P Engineering
@vfrmedia @ranjit this may just be the best video Iโ€™ve seen so far this year.
@del @vfrmedia @ranjit โ€œWeโ€™ve removed the safety doorโ€
@vfrmedia @ranjit the full video is just pure bliss. Iโ€™m levitating
@vfrmedia @ranjit What I really need is a large onion peeler the size of a small onion peeler
@bangskij @vfrmedia @ranjit and it can take down 30-50 feral onions per minute
@vfrmedia @ranjit seems like you know your onions.
@vfrmedia @ranjit they say itโ€™s powered by an inverter drive. why not just install it the other way around to save time and energy?
@SuddenGenesis @ranjit easier to control the motor speed / torque (and thus vary the number of onions processed per minute via the controller)
@vfrmedia @ranjit Oh so that's what they make in Trafford Park these days (other than corn flakes). Their website and youtube channel has loads of different machines for all different vegetables; I can see Youtube is going to be showing me peelers and choppers for ever more. It's interesting these are traditional, basic cut and thwack machines.
@vfrmedia @ranjit Fascinating that the automated process includes a human onion-positioner.
@vfrmedia @ranjit love it. Wish there was one for domestic use.
@vfrmedia @ranjit thatโ€™s an absolute thing of joy.
@vfrmedia
Wait, this is real?!
@ranjit
@dheadshot it's real! i first saw it in the video that @vfrmedia found.

@ranjit @dheadshot

the company sells these machines (and others for processing apples, putting sauce for chip shops into containers) all over the World and has won awards for them..

@ranjit you know you won at life when your only KPI is onions per minute.
@mariusz @ranjit Kitchen Performance Indicator, checks out!
@ranjit Somebody leeked that image.
@ranjit anything to avoid using the metric system... :P
@ranjit I canโ€™t possibly fit that many onions on my belt
@SethTisue the style of the time is an onion bandolier
@ranjit how much is that in cheeseburgers per bald eagle?
@ranjit My pressure cooker has a button for โ€œTASTEโ€. It has three settings, press it once and you get โ€œMORE TASTEโ€, press it twice and you get โ€œLESS TASTEโ€.
@ranjit could only be better if the "SPEED" label read "ONIONS"
@ranjit How often do you have to change the bulb?
@ranjit for some reason the up arrow for speed terrifies me. how many more onions do we NEED?
@ranjit I donโ€™t know what this machine does, but 108.6 onions per minute sounds pretty good to me! ๐Ÿง…
@ranjit careful that might hit onion resonance frequency
@newobject @ranjit if they decrease it to 88 onions per minute they travel back in time to a 1950s greasy spoin diner
@ranjit There must be some way we can replace *all* user interfaces with this, regardless of whether it makes sense or not
@rebecca_meadows the way to a utopian society
@rebecca_meadows @ranjit you'll just need a manager for that.
@ranjit This really brings a tear to my eye.
@ranjit bookmarked this for my hci lecture!
@Kiki @ranjit I have this futile wish that modern UI designers had some knowledge of or competence in industrial control design or human reliability analysis before getting to HCI. Or maybe they do and it's just beaten out of them once they get a job.
@ranjit Cations, Anions, Onions... Must be some part of chemistry I missed.
@ranjit
Man. So many days where I wish I was able to adjust my onions-per-minute.
๐Ÿ˜‚
@ranjit, that's eye-wateringly fast.
@ranjit This one is probably more generally useful though.
@ranjit former Australian PM Tony "Onion Enjoyer" Abbott needs to know this.
@ranjit i'm sorry, three digits is not covering my onion per minute requirements.
@ranjit that's too many onions
@mumbly_joe what if you turned on the machine for just 1.1 seconds
@ranjit
This has to be an incredibly mind destroying job.
@ranjit curious what .6 of an onion looks like, considering they come in different sizes? ๐Ÿค”
