The "professional tidier" and Netflix star apparently isn't quite so organized anymore.

“I have kind of given up on that,” she noted. And declared, “my home is messy,”

@mmasnick @ernie

Same. Only when you walk a mile…

I admit I feel vindicated for choosing interaction with my kids over interaction with stuff to find out if it sparks joy

@MaaikeV @mmasnick @ernie “Instead of dedicating endless hours to ensuring her home is perfectly put together, ‘Now I realize what is important to me is enjoying spending time with my children at home.’”

What about all the people who followed her advice the last several years? Will she apologize for misguiding them and causing unnecessary stress and guilt? Where is the accountability?

@xtel @mmasnick @ernie to be fair, she’s open about it. That should be enough. She doesn’t bear any responsibility for the peer pressure that followed with the way she was hyped.

I would not be surprised if a lot of ‘influencers’ who could not live up to their own philosophy would do everything to keep up appearances.

This is mature.

@MaaikeV @mmasnick @ernie Good point - a whole industry formed around her method. And we all live and learn.
@MaaikeV @mmasnick @ernie your children were the spark of joy all along!
@mmasnick @ernie
They always come home to the begrimed bosom.
@mmasnick @ernie Heh reality hits finally. Once you have enough real life parameters in your life you realize what really sparks "joy" is not stuff.
@mmasnick @ernie the fact she raised a large venture capital round is another artifact of the ZIRP boom years
@mmasnick @ernie Life is what happens while you had other plans.
@mmasnick @ernie as with many things, her approach is good in moderation and less than perfect when approached in an absolutist way.
@Jason @mmasnick @ernie Agree. I picked and chose which of her techniques spoke to me. I still really like the “thank things for their service and move them on to where someone else will love them” part.
@mmasnick @ernie I use her shirt folding method because I like seeing my options but that was the only thing I ever implemented.
@HyperSprite @mmasnick @ernie I don’t know if this was from her but it did inspire me to put short sleeved shirts and long sleeved shirts in two separate groups hanging in my closet and I will never stop.
