I'm just over here trying to process the fact that the guy who leaked damaging news about Hillary Clinton was literally being paid by Russia, and was instrumental in burying the evidence that he, and many other Republicans, were directly working for Putin.

And we're just... I dunno. Going to work and having bagels and shit.

Russia. Owns. The. Republican. Party. Russia had spies in the highest levels of the FBI. Russia had spies in the highest levels of the NRA. Russia owns US Congresspersons.

But whatevs. It's just a literal takeover of the government by our sworn enemy.

Christianity always gets a free pass, even though Christians en masse have been on the wrong side of virtually every human rights issue in history.

It's poison at all levels, but... again... whatevs. We like believing we'll see Grandma again. So... you know. All good.

Agree. I also think Russia owns many members of the the current Tory Party. Oligarchs infiltrated and influenced the Westminster elite because extreme wealth mesmerised the likes of Johnson.

@AlisonCreekside it never matters much to the little guy whose foot is on their neck. But in the long view, it matters quite a lot to the rest of the world.

When I was a kid, there was one rule in politics. The Soviet Union was the enemy. Republican or Democrat, when the vote came up for whether or not to do this thing that would benefit the US and hurt USSR, everybody voted for it.

Fast Forward, and all of a sudden, actual Republican legislators are going to Russia as basically guests of the state, and talking with oligarchs and heads of state about...

Stuff.

And Russia more or less elects the president in 2016.

In my youth, it was communism against capitalism, and there's a lot to say about both being horrible, and that's fine. But now it's oligarchs against the rule of law. Putin's goal is to weaken the US to the point of ineffectiveness. That means everybody on his payroll is either in on the take, or they're being hired precisely because they're incompetent.

Destabilizing the rule of law in the US will destabilize the rule of law worldwide, and may irreparably fracture the EU. That matters.

I’ve been complaining about this myself. The media should be running around with their hair on fire reporting the Russian takeover of parts of our government … but I’ve yet to see it reported at all on cable news, and only a smattering of reports from the print media.

I’ll bet only 1% of the American public even recognized the name of the Russian agent Charles McGonigal.
