Some police departments such as New Orleans, New York ,Chicago, LA , Baltimore have been investigated multiple times. Some have gone through one or more consent decrees where they have promised to retrain, improve, kill less. Those reforms have not worked. Ever. The culture of policing is quite toxic due to the root upon which the notion of American policing is based. This is what slave catchers look like all grown up. 6/6

If you believe policing "used to be about serving and protecting," please know the institution was specifically created to maintain and control slave populations, and later used to enforce Jim Crow laws. The system is sadly operating exactly as intended.

Slavery and the Origins of the American Police State

They were called patrollers or, variously, “paterollers,” “paddyrollers,” or “patterolls,” and they were meant to be part of the solution to Colonial America’s biggest problem, labor. Unlike Great…

India dictator Modi is trying -- with some success -- to remove a BBC documentary about his ugly history from the airwaves and the Internet. I hope people who have copies will be prepared to seed them widely on servers Modi can't take down, just in case the BBC complies with the censorship the way Musk did at Twitter. https://www.huffpost.com/entry/narendra-modi-india-bbc-documentary_n_63d12031e4b01e9288679853

I'm just over here trying to process the fact that the guy who leaked damaging news about Hillary Clinton was literally being paid by Russia, and was instrumental in burying the evidence that he, and many other Republicans, were directly working for Putin.

And we're just... I dunno. Going to work and having bagels and shit.

Russia. Owns. The. Republican. Party. Russia had spies in the highest levels of the FBI. Russia had spies in the highest levels of the NRA. Russia owns US Congresspersons.

But whatevs. It's just a literal takeover of the government by our sworn enemy.

If we've learned anything in the last few years, it's that you don't have to be smart to be rich, you just have to be willing to fuck people over.
When I was younger, I drove fast, perhaps even recklessly and never did I think that it might be the day my life could be taken. These days I drive the speed limit, I watch my mannerisms. I’m more afraid of police than I am road rage. When I travel for work, I try to get the most nondescript rental, I obey traffic laws. I don’t call attention to myself. So many of us do all that and still don’t make it home. Is anyone listening? How loudly do we have to cry to be heard? I’m so, so tired. ..3
