Okay, folkes. Let's start a fun new thread.

What's your favourite #GirlArmour? Post below. I'll start.

#Fantasy #Gaming #ttrpg #armour #books

My fave #GirlArmour is this one I call, "It's not my blood."

Next in my fave #GirlArmour are these sets created by ArmStreet, mainly for the interesting use of colours. There should be more artists working in spring steel.

Please use the hashtag #GirlArmour in your replies.

A departure for my next #GirlArmour is a fantastic set of 3D printable armour for Barbie and other similar dolls, so kiddies get to play dress-up in spite of what the parent company provides.

If you wish to add to the collection, please reply with the hashtag #GirlArmour

Next in the thread on #GirlArmour is something that might better be called, #GirlSword. Seriously. Look at that thing.

#Armour #ttrpg #fantasy #writing

Of course we can't do a #GirlArmour thread without including an image of Sámhlaoch Swords. In 2013 they won the longsword division of the Harcourt Park Invitational Jousting Tournament, beating all comers, male and female, to become the best human being with a longsword on the planet.

For today's #GirlArmour post we have Nikki Willis, posing here outside Kenilworth Castle. When women were allowed to compete in English Heritage jousting events for the first time in 2016, she was one of the first to sign up at the age of 46.

Because #GirlArmour shouldn't always be practical, but also doesn't need to be overtly sexualised we have this piece created by John Galliano for Christian Dior Fall Winter 2006 Haute Couture.

@golgaloth Elegant, glamorous, heroic, yet practical.
@golgaloth Those shoulder pads are essentially World of Warcraft aesthetic. Well, the whole thing is, really. Which lines up really well, timing-wise.
@golgaloth thanks for this. I had never come across Sam before!

@golgaloth TIL Samantha Swords is a kiwi 🇳🇿 / aussie 🦘.. along with #LucyLawless, so we now rate even higher up on the badass-o-meter! 🗡️
@golgaloth she only won because I wasn’t there. If I was there she still would of won I just would of been cheering her on from the stands and she would of won harder.
@golgaloth @colinpeters That is awesome. And methinks I need to go to a jousting tournament before I die, as it sounds amazing.
@AnthonyBaker @golgaloth @colinpeters just avoid the pointy end to touch your helmet so you don’t get a end as the French King Henri II(2) got.
@golgaloth is that a stage name or is she really called Swords?
@golgaloth is girl armour just for kids, or is it also for grown ups? Because, if so, my suggestion is maybe 'woman amour' is a better term. Love the Barbie armour, tho.
@paranoiapen
Many a discussion on the subject of whether girl- prefix is diminishing or empowering, Girl power, Supergirl, You go girl, etc. For me it just scans better than #WomenInArmour, but if you wish to add something under that hashtag then go for it, girl thang.
@golgaloth idk. I'm old. I just don't see many people calling a grown up man a boy. It's a feminist thing from, I guess, yore? (aka, the 70s/80s) that it's kind of demeaning to refer to grown up women as girls. It's not empowering, like, at all, but for sure some people don't mind. I find it kind of irksome, honestly. A girl is a kid, a woman is an adult. It could be seen as saying women are the same as children, where men are proper grown ups - that's certainly how it was used in the past.
@golgaloth great minds, I had thought of doing something like this (barbie robocop armour) after printing some barbie crowns #girlarmour
@golgaloth do you have a link to an STL or creator of these? would love to share it (and maybe print some for any barbie-havers in my life)
@tarajdactyl
I tried to dig up the original creator, but things get very muddled on the internet. I didn't want to credit the wrong person. It seems to be part of a project by Lao Zheng that got kickstarted, but it's not clear if they designed the original files. There are a couple available on Yeggi, and other places, but they were released under the creative commons, so a few variations exists. Happy hunting.

@golgaloth ahhh yeah now you've kicked me off on my own hunting.

it appears to be the product of Jim Rodda (aka Zheng3). sadly, his personal website and a few others i found associated with him have had their domains expire and are now occupied by scammy adware.

the only thing i could find anymore was a profile on myminifactory where he has uploaded his barbie Athena makeover and lots of other fun things (lots of tiny, functional seige engines!) but no other barbie armor, alas.

still, thank you for sending me down an interesting rabbit hole!

@tarajdactyl
Thanks for getting back to me. Interesting stuff!
@golgaloth holy crap I'd have loved this so much as a child
@golgaloth Not sure it's my "favorite" but it's good. She needs a helmet, obviously.
@golgaloth mine would be the armor wearing (albeit rhetorically) silver-tongued matriarch #ArmorGirl

@thepaintedmini

And, of course, the delightful set she wore when she threatened to become a menace capable of destroying the world.

@golgaloth I LOLed at the pockets 8-)

So, one of my favorites is this digital painting from the portfolio of Francesca Resta (@niji)
