Ivory is out! By far and away my favorite Mastodon app.

Before @ivory, Mastodon felt like a Twitter clone that I wasn’t really “getting”, bouncing between apps and not finding any that fit me.

With Ivory, Mastodon became not only a drop-in replacement for Twitter for me, but an upgrade that’s actually so much better than Twitter that I don’t think about it at all anymore.

I immediately subscribed to the highest Ivory plan. They deserve our support!

@marcoarment @ivory Absolutely. Ivory rules!

(Now we need that Mac app beta, please and thank you)

@marcoarment @ivory

as an Android user, kinda jealous of the loving reviews. I do enjoy @megalodon though.

@wjmaggos @marcoarment @ivory @megalodon I'm currently happy with https://elk.zone, currently a web app but soon to be on Android "natively" as well!

@marcoarment @ivory 100% this! Tweetbot was what made Twitter for me in the early days and likewise Ivory is now following in its footsteps
@marcoarment
I’ve never used tweetbot, but Ivory is very nice! Thanks for the recommendation on @atpfm !
@marcoarment @ivory @pauls Agreed. Love this place. May it never turn into the quagmire Twitter has.
@marcoarment @ivory hi, … can anyone tell me where the subscribe button is? I cannot find it.
@cjburrows @marcoarment @ivory Hit your avatar in the top left, then hit “free trial.”
@EshuMarneedi @marcoarment @ivory ok got it. I am embarrassed at how stupid the thing I just did was so I’m gonna stop talking.
@cjburrows @marcoarment @ivory on Ivory, try posting, or replying. You found it!
@cjburrows tap your profile pic. Tap settings. Under “about” look for Free Trial.
@marcoarment @ivory It’s pretty, and I like the customization. I’d still really like some features of other clients, like the ability to see the local feeds of non-subscribed instances. I think it still has some polishing needed.

@michaelgemar @marcoarment @ivory don’t forget that the app team is two people, @mark and @paul

They know they have a list of additions they want to make and I am sure they will do all in due course. But also, feel free to ask them about other requests…they are great about communicating with users!

@robspodcastmug @marcoarment @ivory @mark @paul I realize it’s a new release from a small team, so I’m happy to cut them some slack. (It’s also great, though, that there are so many client options, so everyone can find something they like.)
@michaelgemar they’ve been calling this the early access release. There’s a lot still on their roadmap
@marcoarment @ivory same. Feels like I’m wearing my favorite sweatshirt. 😀
@marcoarment @ivory got it from the App Store on the most expensive plan. I agree, we have to support development of this new web world. My GOD it's beautiful. KUDOS to the designers. #Ivory
@marcoarment @ivory I’ve been trying to get into Mastodon more lately and Ivory truly makes the experience enjoyable. Never felt the same way about Twitter (except with Tweetbot).
@marcoarment I have no doubt about the team and the app. I do have doubts on mastodon itself. More people are joining, but we need “official” accounts from brands and government agencies.
@ckane @marcoarment “they” need us more than we need them. Rest assured the officlal folks will follow the herd. :)
@ckane @marcoarment
They are coming, give them some time. For example in Germany many official institutes and agencies are joining mastodon atm, heck there’s even a official instance for government agencies only. https://social.bund.de/explore

@ckane Sincere question: why do we need official accounts from brands?
@marcoarment This doesn’t fell like “home” yet but it feels like Twitter circa 2011–2012. Exciting!
@marcoarment @ivory still misses things: edit, images covering the post window (not the tiny half ones), smaller profile avatar, reply and instant show reply… It will get better, I know.
@david They’ll get there, I’m sure. They had to rush this out the door and it is just the bare bones at the moment. I am happily finding that I like it and am confident the most highly requested features will be ready soon.
@david @marcoarment @ivory btw edit is technically there. Tap the gear then tap delete and you have this
@robspodcastmug @marcoarment @ivory hmm, interesting. I wonder what would happen to the replies (if post has any), if one did that. 🤔
@david @marcoarment @ivory that I am not sure of…. @mark can you respond when you have time?
@david @marcoarment @ivory BTW this is how they implemented “edit” with Tweetbot too
@robspodcastmug @marcoarment @ivory right, but Twitter is different, because edits weren’t allowed. On Mastodon they are.
@david @robspodcastmug @marcoarment @ivory That's just how it worked in Tweetbot because Twitter had no edit feature (back then). We will build the ability to edit in the future.
@david @robspodcastmug @marcoarment Instance version dependent also. If 4.1 or greater, it can allow edits (admin decision). Instead of “Delete & Post” you’ll see “Edit Post” on an enabled instance. Anyone who engaged with the post prior to edit will receive notification that post has changed. Up to you to visit and view versions to decide if you want to maintain Boost or Fav (not sure about Bookmarks). This version of Ivory allows you to View Post Link(?) where you edit on instance.

@gikiski @robspodcastmug @marcoarment I run a 4.0.2 instance, I don’t see the setting to disable edits. Anyone running Mastodon would want to keep it up-to-date.

Yes, you can go edit on the web client, but for me that’s less than desirable.

@david Regarding Delete & Post, it acts as a new post. IIRC, the prior engagement gets lost.
@gikiski yeah, that’s no good. It will change, I am sure, when they implement that Mastodon capability. What is now is a left over from their Twitter client.

@marcoarment agreed, it’s like Twitter but with real people
@marcoarment @ivory Is there anything comparable for Android? I use Tusky and like it, but I am curious if there's anything else out there.
@marcoarment @ivory at least logging into mastodon.social feels like using Twitter with Tweetbot currently 😢
@marcoarment @ivory instant ivory subscriber here too! Not only did it bring me over to Mastodon; it brought me back from being off Twitter-like platforms for the past 4 years!!
@marcoarment @ivory I'm hearing that it's bad for those that need accessibility support, particularly those that use screen readers. I hope the devs listen and start making it more accessible. #accessibility #ivory.
@marcoarment @ivory It is indeed a great Mastodon app. So tired of even paid Mastodon apps dumping you into a browser to do various things, leaving me with 50 open browser tabs after using Mastodon for several hours. And glad to get the Tweetbot experience back!

@marcoarment huge agreement from me! The tech community I want to follow has all moved over to Mastodon and the non-tech communities I like to follow have all moved to Discord, or had been there for some time already.

My internet is chill and fun again!

@marcoarment @ivory I had heard you guys talk about it on ATP but having used the official client I didn’t think I’d need Ivory. After trying it today and feeling like I was coming home to Tweetbot I was sold.
@marcoarment Ivory is great, but there are still a bunch of people that are still on Twitter and not on Mastadon. Maybe that will change in time, but for now my timeline is about 10% of what it was.
@marcoarment Just subscribed! It is a fantastic app.
@marcoarment based on my screen time I think another indie app needs to have a higher tier too.
@marcoarment @ivory @Bushwhack Same Marco. (And BTW, any app recommendation from you is one I take seriously).
@marcoarment @ivory
I downloaded it from the PlayStore, but it's still not able to connect me.
I wish it would allow me to follow people on different servers without having to copy addresses over.
@cbobda the version of @ivory on the play store is fake. It’s only available on iOS.
