There's always this dichotomy within me when picking app prices.

I'm a cheap SOB vs I like money.

I think we're going with this. Enough people said they wanted to pay more that I'm sure as hell not going to stop them. Not going to feature gate anything, but I could see a couple fun perks for the higher level in the future.
@paul $25 is totally fair. Happy to pay it.
@thevowel @paul agreed, it’s fair and they absolutely deserve it
@paul I want a cool badge! ELON WOULD GIVE US SPECIAL BADGES ;-)))
@Sonikku @paul Give us a fake checkmark! Call it “premier verified."
@paul can’t wait! Subscribed to Tweetbot like a day before the shutdown, but please keep my money ❤️
@paul I’ll be smashing that orange button
@paul …and smashed! Today is a good day 😀
@paul This was one of our big learnings doing a Patreon vs. doing a fixed price subscriber business at Whiskey. It's always good to give people who want to give you more money a way to do that.
@will if I've leaned any lessons from Tweetbot it's that we charged way too little for that.
@paul @will you actually did. The macOS app was superior. My black little heart is still crying
@paul Definitely true. You didn’t just have the best Twitter app. It was one of the best on all of iOS. Would have happily paid more. Excited to try Ivory.
@Lebkin @paul Yeah on the Stephen Colbert show's (tedious) "Questionert" he often asks celebrities their most-used app on their phone. I wished someone would have answered TweetBot! I would have. Maybe in the future it could be Ivory.
@paul This seems very fair to me. I never know what to charge for anything, but this is a slam dunk. I'd pay that again for a Windows or web version, although Elk is quite good.
@paul Perfect. Your apps are totally worth it!
@paul is 'year' based on the gregorian or flurbian calendar
@paul I like this… I really only pay premium for a couple of iOS apps, like, Apollo, and some others. Would love to see the what the extended perks look like eventually 🎉👏🏻.
@paul you deserve it! Can’t wait to sign up!
@paul where's the $1k I am rich button
@paul what is demo? Read only can't post?

@sleepyguy @paul I think you’re in Free Mode currently.

I think the 7-day demo starts when you select Subscribe. The first 7 days are free and give you full access to all features.

If you cancel the subscription within the demo period you don’t get charged and go back to the free read-only level.

But if you let the demo run to the end and pay then you keep the full features active.

(At least, I think that’s how it works. I’ll be activating my demo period tomorrow so we’ll know better then.)

@paul Totally a bargain at $25/yr and an absolute steal at $15/yr. Looking forward to my premier subscriber status!
@paul I’m in for the full amount. Still a bargain. I can’t wait!
@paul seems like a good setup. I’m glad you chose the tiered system. It really is the best route. I’m curious to see if maybe the premium tier gets any extra goodies like app icons. Just a little extra reward for the tip.
@paul that seems fair to me - it would be good to know what the premium perks are going to be, I mean additional/unique app icons would be a good one, it's not locking features but just giving your higher tier user-base even more cool icons etc
@pauls and even if premium offered absolutely nothing extra. Just tell users that too
@paul excited to make sure y’all have extra snacks. Hopefully frito related
@paul I have only a word: when?!?
As soon is in the store you’ll get my 25 bucks!
@paul Question, will premium cover the Mac app too? Just curious.
@breadfan35 @paul now that's a very good question and I imagine if it covered the Mac app it would pull in even more to Premium

@paul i have a a deep aversion against subscriptions. please offer a one-time payment as well.

also take not that the replies are filled with financially stable white techbro presenting people. these are by far not the only demographic on mastodon. consider not to be the "i am rich app" of mastodon.

@yetzt @paul they will not, they did that for many years and went the subscription route to protect the future viability of their apps
@faisal yes, i used subscription free tweetbot on macos and ios until it broke, then moved away. i don't have a problem with paying for a new version occasionally or donating regularly. @paul
@yetzt @paul well, think of a subscription as a regular donation 😉
@faisal thats not how my mental health works.
@yetzt you are nice for donating, but not everyone is like you. Few would donate. Subscriptions allow devs to have a consistent and reliable income and encourages them not to withhold features for the “next version”. It’s a win-win for the consumer and the developer.
@RikRipper making a "cost per time × projected lifetime of the product" calculation and calling it lifetime subscription is really simple, devs get a nice prepayment and i'm happy.
@paul I’m in let’s do this
@paul lifetime for $199? Pleeeeeease
@paul you all rock, and would love help contribute to long term development!
@mako @paul do you think you’ll be using this exact app for 13+ years?
@paul I think that’s a perfect price point.
@paul when can we see it in the App Store?

@paul completely agree and support this, however ‘Basic’ feels like an unintentional pejorative for people paying 3x the Tweetbot price.

I think Apollo has ‘Pro’ and ‘Ultra’, which feels more positive.
