@johnmu It's very useful to know what traffic to an article came from a Top Stories box (which has a high degree of volatility) versus regular blue link results (which are much more stable and less ephemeral).
It would allow for better comparisons of good vs bad performing articles, and can lead to actionable insights and better editorial habits.
Right now, Top Stories is a guessing game, left to 3rd party tools with questionable reliability.
@johnmu Annotations!! Private annotations (account level) or shared annotations (visibile to every account that have full access).
That would be a super cool productivity feature.
@johnmu Another thing that would be super cool: the ability to bookmark custom filtered report in the main menu.
The use case: that single monster regex filter include (or exclude) that groups branded searches for that particular brand whose users gets really creative while typing on Google.
Another use case: a particular combination of keyword cluster and subset of pages that you're checking frequently.
Account level would be ok.
Shared would be great.
@lordoflogfiles @johnmu I know! But it would be awesome to have them in the main menu as "custom reports" of a sort.
Muggles... err... clients mostly don't use bookmarks. Also Squibs OOOPS I meant non-geek colleagues don't have the habit of organizing them neatly.
A custom named report in the main menu works like a charm.
This, and the fact that filtered reports already have a permalink should make it trivial from a frontend developer standpoint.
John I just wanted to say how much I appreciate you posting on Mastodon. i just popped over to Twitter and saw that the responses to your question about what would we like to see in GSC are numerous compared to the question posted here so i thought I'd let you know that it is appreciated that you post here! Please don't stop!
-Exporting all URLs shown in the coverage index
-Custom alerts / warnings settings
-Agreggate clicks, impressions (from performance report) to Index Coverage data, In this way, users could weigh the importance of each URL with error
@harmo_snipe Content management is always important!
I think one of the tricky parts of Search Console reports is that you have to interpret the data to determine if you need to make a change. You need to check if these are critical pages for your website, or if you don't care too much about them. It's not a checklist of things to fix, and maybe you don't have to make any changes (but Google can't make that decision for you :-)).
@johnmu
Thank you very much.
Most of the content is unimportant.
(Since the business site cannot be published, it has become a hobby site)
I wonder if it's indexed but not indexed can be improved a bit? Thought it was posted.
By the way, was there a big change in the crawl index algorithm in mid-October?
@johnmu
- using the same timeframe when switching between the discover/search/news
- performance overview showing traffic of all channels in stacked bar charts
- more than 1000 results
Of course: more query-data...
- why is the page filter still active when I switch domains?
#CoreWebVitals report - improved by grouping by dataLayer variable [if available] or HTML meta tag or completely disabled.
The way it works now does not provide too much value - see: https://masto.ai/@cacan/109664760004155909
Attached: 1 image Is there a way to manually group URLs , or at least provide a signal to Google, in #GCP #CoreWebVitals report? Currently, for an e-commerce website with proper schema markup, and even dataLayer variable with pageType set - product and category pages are grouped into the same URL group, which is suboptimal and does not provide any value to reporting. It would be more valuable not to have URL grouping in #CWV reporting at all]. #SEO
@johnmu Actually I do have one!
In GSC this is annoying
"Referring page
None detected
URL might be known from other sources that are currently not reported"
Bit more clarity on this please as I am trying to fix issues and indications are that either I have a wrong link somewhere (in this case I don't), it;'s the site map (it isn't) or someone has linked to it - no idea but has meant IO have had to put a redirect in and hope that sorts it. So more clarity from GSC please!
@johnmu Posted it on twitter :)
I also have two questions to you over there -.. sorry I just can't deal w the don LOL (so hard to work with)
