I've often pondered what I would do as my last Tweet. For a long time I thought it would be.

"So long and thanks for all the Tweets.”

More recently I've come to like.

"Don't cry from me ArgenTwitter."

At this point I'm not doing a last Tweet. When it happens, it'll be simple account deletion, no notes. The only winning move is not to play.
@[email protected] It's sad to see big players killing the smaller ones.
@paul it’s sad that it had to get to this point. Glad you guys moved toward @ivory
@paul You might want to keep the account for history purposes. So later on someone could try to unravel all this mess.

@paul I’ve been a Tweetbot user for a long as I can remember. The best Twitter app by far. A shame for it to come to this.

Looking forward to Ivory tho

@paul Never wrestle with a pig. You both get dirty and the pig enjoys it
@paul That’s what I did in November 2022. Thanks for almost 15 years of Tweetbot. Looking forward to Ivory.

@paul

I had four twitter accounts, two of them had long post histories from as far back as middle school

Deleted them all without a backup or final tweet, haven’t regretted it for a second

@paul It‘s a shame how Elmo is treating you guys and your work…
@paul I went with the classic Bob Barker sign off…
@paul it would certainly be the most satisfying.
@paul My only reason for not outright deleting my account is so someone else doesn’t take over my user name.
@paul I gutted both of my accounts of all content, DMs, and followers/following using Semiphemeral.
Both have kept their Bird handles to prevent impersonation, and have been renamed to my Mastodon addresses with a Mastodon icon for the profile pic.
Both are in cold lockdown as dead, empty birds.
I don't visit or click on Birdsite.
Period.

@paul
I've been an very happy TweetBot user for ten years.
Thanks for all the work you put into this.
The demise of the blue vulture is a messy affair and I wish it would just threaten Elon's business and not innocent third parties like you, who made Twitter at least technically bearable.

I look forward to the next ten years with Ivory though! So let's hope the elephantine side of things keeps growing. 💜

@paul Just a quick 👋 to say I’m so deeply sorry that you and @mark are forced to deal with those horrors from Twitter. The nightmare of not knowing what step to take next, because you and your customer base are being kept in the dark. It gives me goosebumps in a bad way. I hope you’re hanging in there. Sending good vibes from across the pond.

PS as soon as you release Ivory, I’m subscribing for sure (and chase you about accessibility 😉).

@paul I still wonder about the wisdom of deleting the account. It might be low risk, but impersonation is still a possibility. (Of course, nothing actually prevents Twitter from disabling the account anyway and offering it to the highest bidder, but still.)
@paul I haven’t stopped yet but I think it would be interesting to see what is the last tweet you see in Tweetbot. Mine is really ironic !
@paul I posted a couple times to let people know I was leaving, where to find me, and that i would start removing people I had on other media. I’ve locked it, and check in from time to time to look for new socials as the realisation dawns on folks that the party is over.
@paul Being on this Ivory beta is making me feel back at home fortunately! Cancelled my Feb 4 sub and will sub up on Ivory as soon as you guys launch it. I only hate that I have only 16 of 250+ on Twitter here so far. Hope they all start migrating soon..
@paul mine appears to be have ended up being a link to my mastodon profile. Didn’t think that would be it but qué séra ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
@paul this is how it ends, not with a bang, but a whimper
@paul The best thing is to promote #Ivory. Thanks for giving me such a good Twitter experience over the years with #Tweetbot 🙏🏻
@paul I was able to sign back in on Tweetbot, it’s working now. Not seeing anyone mentioning it, sorry if this is already well known.
@shinratdr @paul Same for me ! I had to re-authorize it, but it's working. Until when ? :/
@chris @paul Honestly, who knows. Could die again in 5 minutes, or 10 years. Could have been a direct order from Elon, or just some departing angry employee re-enabling them. It’s all up in the air, I hate this version of Twitter.
@paul i just found out that Tweetbot is able to connect again (needs new auth) did you do something for that?

@ComPod @paul

Same for me too. Had to sign in again and it’s working fine now.

@Vik @paul fine *) I’m seeing rate-limits
@paul people are claiming on Twitter that they’re able to sign in but I tried on my iPhone and I can’t.
@paul “This Twitter account will self-destruct in five seconds.“
@paul wait final release of Ivory and I will delete my twitter account. I will loose informations from some twitter accounts while they are not on Mastodon but I don’t care. Don’t wanna use official twitter client. Tweetbot or nothing. And with Reddit I will have all the useful tech info I need.
@paul Consider NOT deleting your account, because then others can register it and pretend to be you.
@paul Nice Wargames reference :-)
@paul 💯- I deleted all my tweet’s - which went back to ‘07.
@paul no way. Delete all your tweets, except one that you moved here.
@paul I read that if you totally delete your twitter account then after about 2 - 3 weeks the user name becomes free for anyone to claim. So if someone wanted to trash your good name...
@paul soooo… did my daily check of Tweetbot, and Twitter let me back in today…. 🤷🏼‍♂️
@paul I did consider deleting my account after this whole hubbub, but figured i would squat the handle. For larger accounts (i.e. not me...), scammers getting hold of the handle can be an issue.
@paul if the point is adv being cut off from tweetbot users, and they would charge you a value for the average yearly ARPU for the API access I would happily pay. But if you create a decent iOS/MacOS client synced via iCloud I’d rather pay you than that entitled asshole!
@paul When I tried to delete my account,I got errors each time, over a period of a week or so. Don’t think Melon Husk want people doing that.
@paul I’m honestly torn between leaving my account so they have to pay to host it, and deleting it to show that their user numbers are dwindling.
@alesplin leave it. I guarantee they’re also watching inactive user analytics. 🔥
@paul do you ever wonder if he did it to spite your creating a mastodon client? He’s seemingly that petty
@paul if Tweetbot fails forever, I’m walking away from Twitter. Bring on Ivory!
@paul It maybe better to lock your Twitter account. If you delete it someone can take your name. Apparently there have been instances of that. 🙂
