I'm a software engineer who used to be a construction and farm laborer. I'm a progressive who used to be a redneck. I play guitar and make things.

My thoughts and opinions are very much my own.

The FCC’s Brendan Carr is threatening the licenses of broadcasters who aren’t following Trump’s talking points on Iran. He says that “polls showing widespread distrust of the media” validate his approach. This is the same argument RFK Jr. and Bhattacharya use in dismantling public health.

The more I read about the MacBook Neo, the more it appears to be a love letter to folks developing macOS apps. It's gonna have great numbers, with a big uptick this summer in US back-to-school season, and will be a terrific way for native apps to get in front of more people. While it looks like a very capable system, for users to get the most of out it native apps need to shine. Electron bloatware and simple webpages with gigabytes of crap will bog it down - make your Swift and Objective-C apps sing on this thing!

Tired of seeing people saying, "Trump has changed."

This is who Trump has always been.
He is who we told you he is.
He is who HE told you he is.

A bunch of people bought a truckload of lies from a liar or were more than happy to see liberal tears, no matter the cost.

Fool me once, shame on you.
Fool me twice, shame on me.
Fool me three times, and I must be wearing a red hat.

My unscientific, inexpert, underinformed gut analysis here is that the US has been in recession in any meaningful sense for about a year now, but there’s a few dozen billionaires playing ping-pong with each other’s money and the way we measure growth mistakes that for value creation.

Your regular reminder that "the rich" aren't people who earn large paychecks. They are people with capital that generates returns: investments, property, company shares. "High income earners" are not an intrinsic enemy of "the working class" – many of them are a member of it!
the only people who think "write code faster" is more important than "write code better" are money perverts and the intellectually infirm

"OpenAI warns that firms are using 'AI washing' to mask layoffs across the globe"

Recently finance company Block was losing value, so to give themselves more runway, they cut 40% of their staff

But bc they said it was due to replacing their jobs with AI, which turns out wasn't true

In another time, this would be considered a type of fraud, but now, the investors buy in further, raise the stock value, rewarding the company for boosting the image of AI

Rly needs a better name than 'AI washing'

Trump's poll numbers are bad.

But they’re not nearly as bad as they ought to be.

The man is, whatever his other faults, just way in over his head.

Maybe Democrats should say that more often.

The fact that he’s costing taxpayers a billion dollars a day on a war most of them didn’t want may be a good place to start
