If you can, donate to my pal Nic Steenhout’s GoFundMe. Nic is an important part of the accessibility community. His assistance dog Winston is injured and the treatment has been (and will be) expensive.

#a11y #accessibility

i have a gmail address that i forgot the password for (common for me) and the recovery email and phone number were no longer things i had access to.
i backed up photos of my (now passed) dog, as well as a few years of writing, and a lot more in that email.

all my recovery attempts result in Google only offering the phone number and old work email i dont have anymore. It never asks any of my security questions or any thing else. i have numerous ways to prove it is my account but no way to use them.

If anyone has advice it would be greatly appreciated.

At the last #WordPress meetup @wp0711, @bovelett gave a presentation about #accessibility and we took the opportunity to test our websites.

Surprisingly, we had some contrast errors in our buttons despite using a #SCSS function to automatically calculate the correct contrast.

Turns out, most contrast calculation functions for SCSS are incorrect according to the WCAG 2 specifications.

So I found a smooth solution for that:

When it comes to accessibility, the most common errors are contrast errors. And with a auto-contrast function in SCSS they seem to be fixed easily.

Thanks to the last #WordPress meetup @wp0711 regarding #a11y from @bovelett I just challenged one of my websites @epiphyt and easily found some issues. It was a surprise that my contrast function in SCSS was garbage. 😅 It’s now fixed and so the contrast errors are. 🙂 Blog post regarding this SCSS function is in the making … 📝
Don’t Override Screen Reader Pronunciation

When many devs, testers, and authors first start listening to content through a screen reader, they are surprised to hear dates, pricing, names, abbreviations, acronyms, etc. announced differently than they expect. With the best of intentions (or branding panic) they may seek to force screen readers to announce content as…

You can now follow @links (links at yatil.social) which will post interesting links on accessibility that I bookmark. I might occasionally cross-post, but I try to keep this separated. 🙂

This ASCII art made to look like a clickable audio file is very funny… or is it? Play this 13-second video with your sound on. If you can't use audio, just read the captions. It's what screen reader users experience. They're actively excluded here. I challenge you to find an alternative for these "jokes". 🙂

A reblog is 🥰

Hey Block Editor cracks, my backend suddenly went full-width instead of boxed, and for the life of me I can't find a way to make it behave normally. Does anyone know how to get it contained again?

A short note to say thank you to all the Twitterrific users who have opted out of the pro-rated refunds for your annual subs. I honestly didn’t think there would be many of you, but there are & for that, all of us are grateful.

You’ve helped take an incredibly crappy situation caused by a single, incredibly shitty person and made it a bit better for us here at the factory. There’s no way to really say thanks enough for this, or for the support you’ve showered us with in other ways. Luv u all!🖖
