Twitter just suspended the account for Washington D.C.'s public transit system, maybe for posting the buses' real-time assassination coordinates

Twitter temporarily bans account for D.C.-area bus system without explanation

The social media app suspended the @metrobusinfo account on Tuesday for about six hours and gave Metro transit officials no explanation why.

The Washington Post
@drewharwell Serves them right for doxing the buses.
@drewharwell @faizsays Looking forward to the up and coming (but as yet non-existent) indie band Woke Mind Virus releasing their debut EP "Assasination Coordinates" on Bandcamp soon
@drewharwell @faizsays Twitter has been invaded by conspiracy theory loving idiots getting high on their power and banning useful accounts. And still, I don't see that site dying any time soon
@drewharwell @faizsays @intelwire Easy explanation: users of public transportation tend to not buy Teslas, so what this account was posting is clearly „illegal“ 🤡
@drewharwell @faizsays It competes with Tesla for customers. If the sole purpose of the Boring company was to undermine public transport in California why not just ban a few public transport Twitter accounts...
@drewharwell It should be painfully obvious by now that Twitter is no longer a platform that can be relied upon. Even if you make a concerted effort to be apolitical.
@drewharwell @faizsays Got to hand it to 'em, if you're trying to kill a transit system this is way easier and cheaper than the Hyperloop grift
@drewharwell @faizsays We all know Musk hates public transport.

@drewharwell @faizsays

I can imagine Elon's own algorithms banning himself.

@drewharwell @faizsays ban ban ban.. I wonder if he would ban my Matilda posts? 🙄
@drewharwell @faizsays
While I believe people should get paid for thier writing, there needs to be a better way.

MSN
@drewharwell @faizsays *double checks this isn't parody* wow...
@drewharwell @faizsays When will people learn? #ElonMusk is fucking with all #Twitter users and they’re like “yes, give me more”.
@drewharwell @faizsays Probably so that Elon can promote a HyperLoop solution
@drewharwell @faizsays
So how much longer are people going to use the app?
I really don't know why anyone is still hanging in there because they are wasting time that could be spent organizing on ....
MASTODON
@drewharwell @faizsays Is this proof that Musk uses public transit?!
@drewharwell @faizsays governments should really start setting their own #Mastodon servers and stop relying on 3rd party platform they have no control over.
@drewharwell @faizsays That is the most hilarious (yet disturbing) news I've read all day.
@drewharwell @faizsays Musk is incompetent (as well as a ridiculous scumbag).
@drewharwell @faizsays There's no profit in DC public transit. They refuse to pay Musk for a verified account. Chaos is a lone super pumped Proud Boy with a fake $8 account daily posting fake bus schedules to confuse the woke fare paying mob going to work each day. Yup, Twitter is super dumb badass for the super dumb badasses.
@drewharwell @faizsays very on brand for a would-be car "tycoon"
@drewharwell @faizsays @caseynewton so the crazy now hits public transportation. Is DOJ or FTC going to take a stand? While it is a privately held company, the services provided impact millions and this service should be provided without capriciousness and discrimination. If there’s no indication that a policy was breached, #birdchan should explain themselves. The whims of one wannabe dictator cannot be allowed to stand.
@drewharwell @faizsays
In a shocking turn of events, guy who owns a car company he's neglecting does the lazy minimum to support its mission while thoughtlessly playing with his new toy.
@drewharwell They should come to Mastodon.

@drewharwell @faizsays

Or maybe because they in competition with Tesla?

@drewharwell @faizsays Apparently, its logo wasn’t shaped like a dick or its tweets weren’t racist enough. Try harder, DC Mass Transit!
@drewharwell @faizsays What?! Why? Context please for those of us who are paywalled?
@drewharwell @faizsays is there another Coup d’Etat in the works?
@drewharwell @faizsays
Begs the question of which is a bigger shitshow: Twitter or the Hous of Reps?
@drewharwell @faizsays
It's the word "public." Drives fascists crazy that the "public" should benefit. From anything.
@drewharwell @faizsays … sigh is not a big enough word …
@drewharwell @faizsays Twitter is becoming less and less tolerable every day.
@drewharwell @faizsays After all, how can passengers travel safely, if everyone one knows when and where the buses are?!?!
@drewharwell @faizsays The public transport commission is to liberal for Twitter.

@drewharwell @faizsays

#Twitter is now way too unstable for businesses to use. Best to invest in #Fediverse to own your social presence.

@drewharwell @faizsays Horrific choice, and entirely unsurprising. Musk sees #publictransit as a threat to his wealth-hoarding.
@drewharwell @faizsays buses r just too political /s
@drewharwell @faizsays I got suspended for criticizing Marjorie Taylor Green and Matt Gaetz (no profanity, just civil discourse). You’re walking on eggshells when commenting on Twitter since AI bots not humans make the final decision to suspend. If Musk supports politicians like Greene and Gaetz then I suspect he biases the filters in their favor.

@drewharwell @faizsays

High speed rail, subway systems, and public transportation are all targets for defunding by #KochNetwork dark money.

I would be completely unsurprised if Musk is taking money for suspending the Twitter accounts of political opponents, journalists, and business competitors of Republican billionaire donors.

Public entities like a transit authority would certainly help the fossil fuel industry.

Why are Koch-funded activists trying to derail a US city's public transit?

Phoenix will vote Tuesday on a light rail system expansion. It faces opposition from business owners backed by activists affiliated with the Koch network

The Guardian
@Npars01 Most Americans have absolutely no idea how many powerful individuals and entities are working against their interests.
Republicans Reveal an Anti-Urban, Anti-Public Transit Platform

The Grand Old Party platform calls for an end to using gas taxes for public transit as well as other non-road purposes like "bike-sharing," opposes increases to the 23-year-old gas tax, and would eliminate the U.S. DOT Livability Initiative.

@Npars01 @drewharwell @faizsays I’ll never understand how big oil and big business interests have convinced Americans that: less options = more freedom. I don’t understand how people can see having no choice but to drive absolutely everywhere, pay for gas, car maintenance, tolls, registration fees, and think that’s the ultimate freedom.
@illvillain @Npars01 @drewharwell @faizsays I think if they're honest with themselves, a lot of people feel freer when they don't have to choose for themselves in some cases.
Loki wasn't totally wrong IMO...

@NerdShinobi @illvillain @drewharwell @faizsays

It's arrogant presumption that feeds a Republican donor narrative that people can't choose what's best for themselves.

It's a comforting self-rationalization for funding a global rise of fascist movements.

@Npars01 @illvillain @drewharwell @faizsays indeed it is. I wasn't really thinking of the political aspect, just the general. Found myself thinking the other day after I wasn't able to get one option for something I wanted, that I was relieved not to have to choose. That got me thinking.

@illvillain @drewharwell @faizsays

Republican billionaire donors want their customers to be captive consumers.

The Gas & Oil industry has siphoned billions out of Iraq and Syria, deliberately destabilizing & impoverishing nations in the process.

Putin is waging a genocidal war to regain captive consumers for Russian natural gas.

Koch, Tim Dunn, & Farris Wilks have hijacked democracy in Texas, Louisiana, & other red states to keep captive consumers and favorable systems of public subsidies.
