George Santos should resign as Congressman-elect. If he refuses, Congress should expel him. He should also be investigated by authorities.
Just about every aspect of his life appears to be a lie. We’ve seen people fudge their resume but this is total fabrication.

George Santos Admits to Lying About College and Work History

The congressman-elect confirmed The New York Times’s findings that he had not graduated from college or worked at two major Wall Street firms, as he had claimed.

George Santos represents more than an individual case for American democracy. If he’s allowed to serve there will be more who seek office up and down the ballot who will believe that they can completely fabricate credentials, personal features and accomplishments to win office.
Total fraud about academic and professional credentials, religion, sexual orientation, etc.
It doesn’t appear he lied about being Latino, unfortunately.
@Joaquincastrotx Do we know if he is even a US citizen?
@MHowell @Joaquincastrotx He’a a liar and a charlatan, but we can do better than birtherism. If he had a different last name that wouldn’t be coming up.
@activecultures @Joaquincastrotx He is under indictment in Brazil, where he and his mother lived at some point. That, combined with his lies about almost every aspect of his life, were the reasons it seemed a relevant question to ask.
@Joaquincastrotx @MHowell There’s so much to criticize him for, including whatever he was indicted for. I just have an automatic reaction when a first generation American with a “foreign” sounding last name has their US citizenship questioned, especially if they’ve lived abroad. We saw the ugliness with Obama. Unless there’s some evidence, this feels like an unnecessary direction, when he’s lied about so much
@activecultures @Joaquincastrotx Being as he's lied about so much, his money situation suggests he's beholden to a 3rd party, and the GOP is protecting him and preparing to put him in Congress, wouldn't it make sense to investigate the one avenue that would immediately disqualify him from office, and not ignore it because Trump was a world-class racist ass?
@Joaquincastrotx @MHowell Yeah, I’ve read the other recent pieces, which are pretty damning. That’s why falling back on immediately investigating a child of immigrants feels over the line and just as distasteful as it did with Obama and Kamala Harris.
@Joaquincastrotx
There's no "peacefully and patriotically" excuse for the Republican Party not to know before the election. The Parties don't allow candidates to walk in off the street, use their name and not check them out.
@Sanityreturn2us @Joaquincastrotx I don’t know, have you seen some of the crappy people they’ve been running in recent years?
@fizzixrat @Joaquincastrotx
That's exactly what I meant. GOP knew. They're being silent because he got caught.
@Joaquincastrotx "I was jew-ish" made me laugh out loud.
@Joaquincastrotx we jews are grateful he is only
Jew-ish...
Document reveals Santos boasted of being 'proud American Jew' during campaign

Congressman-elect George Santos did not hedge on his religion in a position paper on Israel.

The Forward
@Joaquincastrotx he’s a Ted Cruz/Marco Rubio #latino , also know as pendejos.
@Joaquincastrotx AFAIK Latino people living on US doesn't recognized those with Brazilian heritage as Latino, as in Brazil at speak portuguese not Spanish.

@Joaquincastrotx Heck, we might even end up with a president like that some day.

Oh, we already have.

@Joaquincastrotx It is NOT ILLEGAL to lie in your campaign. Maybe we ought to fix that first.

@QuickWeasel @Joaquincastrotx How would this work, exactly? I would not want to criminalize campaign speech - imagine if a policy promise wasn't enacted exactly as discussed on a campaign: would this open up the elected rep to a lawsuit or criminal charges?

It's OUR job as voters to educate ourselves (with help from state and local parties, and, of course, the opposition candidate). The NY Democratic party really screwed the pooch here. This was Santos' 2nd time to run with the same lies.

@Joaquincastrotx The Press was derelict for reporting this AFTER the fact. The GOP was derelict for not vetting. And NY Democratic party for no serious oppo research. The NY electorate will have to recall him.
@acm4147 @Joaquincastrotx there is no recall on the federal level. If he’s not impeached, which he won’t be, because Republicans have absolutely no problem with who he is or the lies, he told, he will serve until he’s defeated electorally unless he resigns or is indicted.
@amaditalks @Joaquincastrotx Unbelievable. What an embarrassment.
@amaditalks @acm4147 @Joaquincastrotx
I blame the Democratic candidate running against him, they weren’t competent
@CivilityFan @amaditalks @Joaquincastrotx The district was jerrymandered, to include more GOP friendly areas. The state party failed with no oppo research. With the old district and a progressive candidate (primary voters rejected them), Santos would still be looking for a real job.
@acm4147 @CivilityFan @Joaquincastrotx oppo research in congressional races is usually about policy issues and financial problems, not vetting a candidate’s entire résumé. There’s an assumption of basic integrity that is reasonable 95% of the time, but that number is worsening because Republicans are devolving.
@amaditalks @CivilityFan @Joaquincastrotx Oppo research will have to catch up to the times. This was a huge debacle. We're stuck with this sick joke for 2 years. No wonder people are cynical. Red flags everywhere.
@acm4147 @CivilityFan @Joaquincastrotx Red flags where? That’s really easy to say in hindsight, now that we know everything he was lying about. It wasn’t at all obvious during the campaign.
@amaditalks @CivilityFan @Joaquincastrotx Very few people, including myself, took Trump seriously. We almost ended up with him for 8 years. Times have changed. Vetting must be more thorough. They are with most jobs in the private sector. If not, well end up with more Trumps and Santos. Or people will give up on the system, and our next government will be from a coup. Jan 6 is a warning. And I'm tired of excuses.
@CivilityFan @acm4147 @Joaquincastrotx it’s a weird and distinctly unlearnable impulse to blame Democrats for the bad actions of Republicans. No Democrat told George Santos to lie repeatedly about everything right down to the religion of his own family. The only person to blame for George Santos did is George Santos. But if we want to lay further blame, NY Republican leadership knew he was lying and didn’t dissuade him from running or persuade him to be honest.
@amaditalks The candidate running against him had a responsibility to his voters to do due diligence and verify his résumé. It should have been his first order of business to find out if his opponent had any obvious lies that could be exploited. He dropped the ball, so to speak, by not verifying his R opponent was who he said he was. Hopefully, this will be a lesson learned by every future candidate
@CivilityFan that’s just really not how things are done, and it has never needed to be. The problem here is not that the Democrat did not spend time and money doing a job he shouldn’t have to do, the problem here is that Republicans have zero integrity. And that’s 100% on them.
@amaditalks I’d agree with you if the D won, but he didn’t. We cannot afford to give up any seats, and verifying that your opponent is telling the truth about themselves is not rocket science. The seats lost by Dems in New York cost us the majority and it was arrogance and stupidity on the part of the DNCC, whose leader lost his seat. Instead of funding candidates of Republicans in primaries to elevate the most extreme GQP they should have researched and ran competent campaigns at home
@amaditalks @acm4147 @Joaquincastrotx @CivilityFan true but upholding basic standards should not be the responsibility of Democrats alone. Republican voters were fooled by their own party on this. As I understand it Nassau GOP knew Santos was a liar and laughed it off. They clowned their own voters and need to answer for it.
@Joaquincastrotx How does one do this for TWO YEARS? Every press event he holds is going to go off the rails. I get that he’s signing up to be McCarthy’s personal polyp as a form of cover but this is just going to keep getting louder.

@aethervision @Joaquincastrotx

I have now seen the phrase "McCarthy's personal polyp" and I don't know if I will ever achieve that level of perfection in describing a sycophant.

My kippah is off to you, sir or madam!

@Joaquincastrotx

Herschel Walker was just a test. George Santos is the real thing.

@Joaquincastrotx As a double doctorate from Harvard and Yale, I could tell he was a fraud from the start.

@Joaquincastrotx

Is Santos a disgraceful conman? Sure.

But does the GOP want a disgraceful conman to represent and fundraise for them? They seem cool enough with Trump.

But do the voters who elected Santos want their vote back so they can support someone who doesn't lie to them? Not hearing a lot of cmplaints.

The problem isn't merely lying liars. The problem is that a big chunk of our society doesn't care, as long as the lies please them and that the lies enrage the right people.

@Joaquincastrotx Why we dodged a bullet with Herschel.
@Joaquincastrotx
And add to that the three #SCOTUS candidates that Trump nominated who gave us all the impression that they agreed #Roe was established and untouchable. Vetting isn't difficult. We can do a lot better.
