“Settler colonialism is a structure, not an event…Settler colonialism destroys to replace.” – Patrick Wolfe
Neither Gaza nor Hamas have declared war on Israel. Rather, Israel has been waging a settler-colonial war against the Palestinian people since at least 1948.
In recent years, Gaza in particular has faced the brunt of this war. What is occurring today must be understood in that context. Here are a few quick facts on the Gaza Strip:
• Has a population of 2,375,259.
• Under Israeli siege and blockade since 2007.
• Dov Weisglass, a senior advisor to then-Prime Minister Ehud Olmert, explained that Israeli policy was designed “to put the Palestinians on a diet, but not to make them die of hunger.”
• Calculated that "diet" as 2,279 calories per person per day.
• Unemployment at 47% (71% among women, 75% under 29).
• 80% dependent on food aid.
• 96% of water is contaminated and unpotable.
• 4 to 6 hours of electricity a day.
• Operation Cast Lead: December 2008. Israel killed 1,391 Palestinians during the fighting, at least 759 of them civilians.
• Operation Pillar of Defense: November 2012. Israel killed 167 Palestinians, at least 87 of them civilians.
• Operation Protective Edge: July 2014. Israel killed 2,202 Palestinians, at least 1,391 of them civilians.
• Operation Guardian of the Walls: May 2021. Israel killed 232 Palestinians, including 137 civilians.
• Operation Breaking Dawn: August 2022. Israel killed 33 Palestinians, including 17 civilians.
• In 2015, UN said Gaza would be unlivable by 2020.

It's a bit concerning to me that there's an ongoing thread on kbin.social (https://kbin.social/m/kbinMeta/t/304907) that shows a transphobic community on their service has been allowed to exist for over a month (https://kbin.social/m/modernmisogyny). I've took a glance at the community and it's very transphobic.
People in the thread have also commented about reporting the community but nothing has been done.
It's worrying that kbin.social seems to be so lax on moderation. Please consider boosting this so the issue is addressed.
