George Santos should resign as Congressman-elect. If he refuses, Congress should expel him. He should also be investigated by authorities.
Just about every aspect of his life appears to be a lie. We’ve seen people fudge their resume but this is total fabrication.

George Santos Admits to Lying About College and Work History

The congressman-elect confirmed The New York Times’s findings that he had not graduated from college or worked at two major Wall Street firms, as he had claimed.

George Santos represents more than an individual case for American democracy. If he’s allowed to serve there will be more who seek office up and down the ballot who will believe that they can completely fabricate credentials, personal features and accomplishments to win office.
@Joaquincastrotx The Press was derelict for reporting this AFTER the fact. The GOP was derelict for not vetting. And NY Democratic party for no serious oppo research. The NY electorate will have to recall him.
@acm4147 @Joaquincastrotx there is no recall on the federal level. If he’s not impeached, which he won’t be, because Republicans have absolutely no problem with who he is or the lies, he told, he will serve until he’s defeated electorally unless he resigns or is indicted.
@amaditalks @Joaquincastrotx Unbelievable. What an embarrassment.
@amaditalks @acm4147 @Joaquincastrotx
I blame the Democratic candidate running against him, they weren’t competent
@CivilityFan @amaditalks @Joaquincastrotx The district was jerrymandered, to include more GOP friendly areas. The state party failed with no oppo research. With the old district and a progressive candidate (primary voters rejected them), Santos would still be looking for a real job.
@acm4147 @CivilityFan @Joaquincastrotx oppo research in congressional races is usually about policy issues and financial problems, not vetting a candidate’s entire résumé. There’s an assumption of basic integrity that is reasonable 95% of the time, but that number is worsening because Republicans are devolving.
@amaditalks @CivilityFan @Joaquincastrotx Oppo research will have to catch up to the times. This was a huge debacle. We're stuck with this sick joke for 2 years. No wonder people are cynical. Red flags everywhere.
@acm4147 @CivilityFan @Joaquincastrotx Red flags where? That’s really easy to say in hindsight, now that we know everything he was lying about. It wasn’t at all obvious during the campaign.
@amaditalks @CivilityFan @Joaquincastrotx Very few people, including myself, took Trump seriously. We almost ended up with him for 8 years. Times have changed. Vetting must be more thorough. They are with most jobs in the private sector. If not, well end up with more Trumps and Santos. Or people will give up on the system, and our next government will be from a coup. Jan 6 is a warning. And I'm tired of excuses.
@CivilityFan @acm4147 @Joaquincastrotx it’s a weird and distinctly unlearnable impulse to blame Democrats for the bad actions of Republicans. No Democrat told George Santos to lie repeatedly about everything right down to the religion of his own family. The only person to blame for George Santos did is George Santos. But if we want to lay further blame, NY Republican leadership knew he was lying and didn’t dissuade him from running or persuade him to be honest.
@amaditalks The candidate running against him had a responsibility to his voters to do due diligence and verify his résumé. It should have been his first order of business to find out if his opponent had any obvious lies that could be exploited. He dropped the ball, so to speak, by not verifying his R opponent was who he said he was. Hopefully, this will be a lesson learned by every future candidate
@CivilityFan that’s just really not how things are done, and it has never needed to be. The problem here is not that the Democrat did not spend time and money doing a job he shouldn’t have to do, the problem here is that Republicans have zero integrity. And that’s 100% on them.
@amaditalks I’d agree with you if the D won, but he didn’t. We cannot afford to give up any seats, and verifying that your opponent is telling the truth about themselves is not rocket science. The seats lost by Dems in New York cost us the majority and it was arrogance and stupidity on the part of the DNCC, whose leader lost his seat. Instead of funding candidates of Republicans in primaries to elevate the most extreme GQP they should have researched and ran competent campaigns at home
@amaditalks @acm4147 @Joaquincastrotx @CivilityFan true but upholding basic standards should not be the responsibility of Democrats alone. Republican voters were fooled by their own party on this. As I understand it Nassau GOP knew Santos was a liar and laughed it off. They clowned their own voters and need to answer for it.
