I just walked into my local public library with a curiosity and walked out with a bag full of books to satisfy it.

And they say magic isn't real?

Treasure, use, and support your libraries, folks. They're the heart and soul of a civil society. ❤️

Good thing I have a holiday coming up, because I dunno how I'd find the time to read all these else.

Definitely straying into "too much of a good thing" territory today.

@vmbrasseur too many books is a good problem, imo. Now you can choose the best ones, rather than settling for the ones that don’t quite catch your fancy.
@vmbrasseur I go to my library about once a month and check out a book. I love being able to get a new book for free! I started posting my readings on a bookwyrm instance too.
@vmbrasseur I know a song about that :)
@vmbrasseur I *love* the library, so much. It's always been a source of joy, since I was a child. Now, our library offers workshops for all kinds of things, invites authors to talk about their work, even has a SEED LIBRARY OMG. My favourite place, outside of home and the bush. Happy reading!

@vmbrasseur

For people who can't get out and about you can check out eBooks from your local library on the Libby App. Just look up your local library and enter in your library card number.

@sunnywillow @vmbrasseur I also pay $50 per year for access to Brooklyn Public Library digital, because they have more books than my local and state library.

@gwaldby @vmbrasseur

Oh wow! Thanks. I didn't know that was an option.

@sunnywillow @gwaldby @vmbrasseur I pay $40 per yr for the Houston Public library, which gives you digital access to that library as well as the Harris Co. library branch- 2 for the price of one !
@vmbrasseur Thank you for using your local public library!
@vmbrasseur
YES!
❤️ Libraries are for everyone! ❤️
@vmbrasseur
Also our local library allows you to search the catalogue of all the regional libraries online, and reserve books, which they will deliver to the local branch! It's magic.
@Korny They're also likely a member of an interlibrary loan consortium that can get books not only from the local region but from all over the country, and will have a lot of electronic resources that aren't otherwise available outside of universities. Explore!
@vmbrasseur If you are a cat, DO NOT OPEN THE BAG!!
@vmbrasseur And for our #Disability posse, we can now “go to the library” from home. E-books over the ‘net. Hurray!
@vmbrasseur Not to mention they’re the keystone of American democracy.
@vmbrasseur #Libraries and #librarians are civic wonders that deserve our patronage and support. Ex: I recently listened to a #ScienceMagazine podcast interview with #DanSaladino on his most recent book #EatingToExtinction. I checked my local public library’s catalog online, reserved the book and voila! Checked it out the next day. Am currently enjoying the read over winter break!
@vmbrasseur I don't use our local public library because a bad man works there. I miss having access to one though.

@vmbrasseur The best thing about libraries is they let you take home books for free.

The second best thing about libraries is they let you bring the books back without any hassle.

Says she who once paid $225 for a $25 book because she couldn't find a place to cram it into any existing bookcase.

@vmbrasseur
Where I live is a library enigma. A very red-voting area that supports and funds libraries and education. No book-banning bullshit, either. It may change, but I believe not.
