NetBSD turns 33 this Sunday! 🚩

To celebrate 33 years of clean code, portability, and zero bloat, Challenging the rest of the fediverse to help hit this year's funding goals.

Also do drop a screenshot of your uptime, uname -a, or a pic of the weirdest hardware you've got running NetBSD right now. (RockPro64 NPF routers or Pi's hooked up to retro CRTs highly encouraged).

Throw some money at the developers keeping the real UNIX alive:

Men are 2.6x more likely than women to bike to work. Study finds where protected bike lane coverage is higher, women’s cycling rates rise significantly faster than men’s. Where coverage is limited or fragmented, women’s participation drops more sharply.

@ascentale @meganL @bikenite A5: When I tested my bike with the heavy wagon to the far grocery last week, I had two different people going "wow that's neat," one talking briefly about the ability to do cargo on bike and the other explicitly talking about how that'd sure save gas. I encouraged all of it.

Also, I can't tell if it's the weather or the prices, but last week with early late-spring warm weather, bikes were _everywhere_. It did feel like more than even the usual spring bloom of bikes.

Q1. Where are you posting from?

What do you do if a route you planned is suddenly closed for repairs and no detour is marked?

Classic cars are museum pieces - increasingly as technology leaves them behind - and it is good that some people are prepared to put in the effort to preserve them.

I don’t know if I’d put it quite that way. Technology leaves behind modern cars much, much more rapidly than old cars. Getting controller parts for a ten year old car depends heavily on the popularity of that car. Getting controller parts for a 45 year old car, like mine, is meaningless because the car has no controllers, aside from an analog glow plug controller, which I can diagnose and fix if it ever has trouble.

My car is 100% obsolescence proof when it comes to anything related to technology. Newer cars simply aren’t.

Thinking of building a wireless bridge to replace one that has to be reset at least once per day. I could use a #RaspberryPi Zero W with USB wired Ethernet or a B+ with USB WiFi.

Another reason to hate #Apple We're seeing more 2018+ MacBook Pro/Air donations — but Apple's T2 chip means even after iCloud sign-out and reset, the firmware stays locked to the original account.

Without donor contact, these machines are useless. :(

I've upcycled ~1,000 older Macs, but T2 era machines will end that. It's controlling, creates e-waste, and will only get worse. #righttorepair matters — Apple couldn't care less.
