BA in English who failed to find a career in publishing. Blogger, writer, sometimes proofreader/editor.

I probably ought to be writing something now.

I am editing an article that I'm co-authoring and paused over "herds of mastodons." Or is it "herds of mastodons," in the way that some animals (deer, for example) use the same word for singular and plural.

The article is about environmental history, but in a different context the correct way to write "herds of mastodons(s)" is "Fediverse."

#PennedPossibilities 787 — How does your MC view the gentler, daintier things in life: as things worth preserving and caring for, or things only bound to wither and disappear?

I don't usually respond to these kinds of prompts, because I mostly write short non-fiction prose and they don't really apply. But....

My MCs view the gentler, tastier--um, daintier--things in life as their next meal. Especially if they are small to medium sized fish.

I am working on an article about #Osprey.

A reminder that Sunday is the main Festival Day of the Brooklyn Book Festival (10:00 am to 6:00 pm). If you can't attend (perhaps even if you can) there were virtual programs last weekend, which are now available as online videos.

Reminder to self: sometimes you love writing

I'm hoping to get off WordPress soon--just tired of all the drama and looking to make a change. I've looked at a few platforms but haven't found one that answers all my wishes (yet). So in the meantime I may get back to using Medium regularly again.

It's funny how things change: now Medium feels more stable than WordPress.

Anyway, for $5 a month it's not a big investment, though migrating all my WP posts would be, in terms of time and effort.

Opinions, please?

Who is using a paid account on Medium?

I had one several years ago, in the early days. It let me read "members only" articles, which was nice, but then Medium went through some changes and I ended my membership because it was hard to know what their use/business model would be from one month to the next.

I just moved a post from my WordPress blog to Medium and discovered I can have a me.dm Fediverse account if I get a paid membership on Medium again.

God save the King! God save the Tangerine King

I wasn't even out of bed this morning when I remembered this blog post from 2017. It seems especially appropriate (again) today.

We Said “No” (for Vikki)
Circle of Ignorance | September 7, 2017

Don’t we all like to think that if we were some day faced with an important ethical choice we would respond with eloquence? Well, Vikki and I did not. ... But we said the one word that mattered most: No!

"That's all well and good", I replied, "but until you fix it I'm not buying the car."
