This is what Earth looks like from 1.5 billion kilometers away. A pale blue dot beneath the rings of Saturn captured by the Cassini spacecraft.

@wonderofscience incredible, thank you for sharing!
@wonderofscience in the galactic scale, earth is saturn's truck nutz
@wonderofscience @timhollo i love this. Now that it’s pointed out I can see how Into the Woods is totally a video game.
@wonderofscience I wonder if that is the Moon a little to the left?
@wonderofscience This picture did indeed make me appreciate the wonders of science that we can see such things. It also made my heart well up in worship toward the Creator who called everything into being. 😍 πŸ™ŒπŸ½
@Helena @wonderofscience ah yes of course you mean Linus Torvalds? He's a great guy!
@wonderofscience Here is Pale Blue Dot, in french, for those who want: https://lespritsorcier.org/labo-blogs/pale-blue-dot-carl-sagan/

L'Esprit Sorcier
@wonderofscience Beautiful and inspiring picture. It should teach us that we are a very small bit of something infinitely great and awe inspiring
@wonderofscience this is such a humbling image. Should be compulsory viewing for all those on the planet who believes themselves exceptional.
@wonderofscience how exceptionally small we are.
@wonderofscience @stux incredible image… and incredible improvement of sensors since the initial pale blue dot picture…
@wonderofscience Beautiful! Impressive work to get this!
@wonderofscience it's amazing that we could be living on such a tiny dot like this, from the perspective of neighboring planets.

@wonderofscience (Serious self) - awe inspiring and humbling. Uniting all of us, erasing our petty bickering, a picture of fragile unity.

(#dadJoke part of brain) - hey, I can see my house from here.

@pseudonym @wonderofscience just gorgeous. For those of us who dream of interplanetary travel while knowing we’ll never experience it, this comes damn close.
@wonderofscience
I loved when Cassini turned around, said "bye", and headed into Saturn, after doing a brilliant job. What a good girl she was. #Saturn #Space #Cassini
@wonderofscience Who else would like to see NASA and its missions come into @Mastodon? I’ll raise my hand first βœ‹
@pedvro @wonderofscience @Mastodon Many of them are. Just one that I have handy: @65dBnoise Awesome "inside" information and context
@wonderofscience Just a speck and we are as ants relative to that speck. I am in awe.
@wonderofscience That photo just puts everything into perspective!
@wonderofscience This is going to be my new wallpaper! The old one was just Saturn's rings.
@wonderofscience it looks like a tiny sapphire. Amazing.

@wonderofscience
This one just... It got me.

Maybe it's the complete silence that my headphones are producing, here in the middle of the night.
Maybe it's being closed in my small room, with two bright monitors near me.
Maybe it's just a combination of everything else, my thoughts and my body intertwined as a messy braid.

But this picture made me feel alone. Stranded in space, thousands and millions of kilometers from everything I have ever known.

Utterly alone, but in peace.

@wonderofscience
I wish that I had my copy of "The Dictionary of Obscure Sorrows" to guide me here. This is a feeling that needs a word. And I'm sure there is one, but I'm not good enough with them to find it out myself.
@wonderofscience to think that this dot is home to so much pain, suffering and turmoil ..... from a distance seems like a much better view 😞
@wonderofscience
Isn't earth just one of many grains of sand on one of many beaches.
@wonderofscience wow! what a picture... ❀️
@wonderofscience I wish they would tell us when theyβ€˜re taking one of these, so that at the right moment, as light for that picture reflects off earth, I could look up and smile. I look ghastly in that picture!

@wonderofscience

Tiny Earth. Always on the move.

A miracle Santa can find us EVERY year! πŸŽ„

@wonderofscience This, for some perspective today. Beautiful.
