@Teela Great to hear, but it would be even better if her family were duly compensated.
@WndrWmnIII @Teela or at least given health insurance 🙄
@WndrWmnIII @Teela I'm happy that she is getting recognized but agree this feels like a scrap compared to what she is owed.
@statmonkey @Teela Window dressing substituting for real, tangible impact.
@WndrWmnIII @Teela don't forget we are required to be grateful for the crumbs and the ass fking
@Teela now THAT'S worth a visit to the in laws to see Henrietta Lacks!
@Teela Now THERE is some good news!
@Teela Wow, she has involuntarily done so much for humanity. I appreciate her.
@Teela
How touching. Thanks for sharing. I agree that there's needs to be compensation, though.
@Teela That's fantastic! Next step: pay her family a whole lot of money.

alberta canada is still racist extremist. Black people allowed to go to the hospital there? not the case in a lot of places throughout (kkk)anada.

@Teela that is excellent news.
@Teela that's amazing! Such an incredible and sad story.
@Teela this is absolutely awesome news.
@Teela She’s a good replacement.
It's about darn time!
@Teela Replacing Robert E. Lee? Ahahah. That's brilliant. Boy, the white supremacists will get their tighty-whiteys in a bunch.
@Teela This is awesome! I live near Roanoke.
@Teela Oh wow. I’ve never even heard of this until today. Thanks for sharing. Also a quick google search brought me to this photo.

@gideon @Teela

There is a wonderful book about her...
"The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks".
A very good read.

@Photoist @Teela Will add it to my reading list.
@Photoist @gideon @Teela One of my favorite books, one of the rare ones I re-read every so often.
It's high time this lady gets more recognition. Next thing should be compensation for the family.
@Photoist @gideon @Teela A good read indeed. Very heartbreaking at the same time.
@Teela fitting a statue of someone who helped save so many lives would replace one of someone who helped kill so many!
@Teela I owe my life to some of the research done on her cells. This is great!!!
@Teela
Everyone who hasn’t yet should really check out THE IMMORTAL LIFE OF HENRIETTA LACKS (ISBN10: 9781400052189) by Rebecca Skloot
———-
I also encourage reaching out the THERMO FISHER SCIENTIFIC, the company that stole and monetized HeLa cells—making billions of dollars in the process— that it has fought to keep from the heirs and ancestors of Mrs. Lacks
@Teela This is great news.
I worked with HeLa cells myself and always had to think of her when I handled those tubes. Reading that her cells were used without her permission appalled me during my whole lab life.
@Teela Wonderful news ❤
@Teela Having actually used cells from this line in the lab, both parts of the event are excellent - honoring Lacks and getting rid of Lee.
@Teela As someone who has worked with HeLa cells in the lab, I am so happy about this!
@Teela Yes!!! I want to see this statue!
@Teela
Now "that" makes sense. I read about Henrietta Lacks years ago. It's a very interesting story.

@Teela

Nice gesture.
But still doesn’t compensate her heirs for medical discoveries based on her cells.

@Teela This is great. Thank you for sharing.
@Teela Its crazy as a Roanoke native that I new nothing of this story until fairly recently...excited she is being recognized!
@Teela this is wonderful. Did her family ever receive any type of compensation or acknowledgement, in particular, after her story was brought to the attention of the public through Oprah’s movie?
@Teela
Well it's about time!

Q: What do former members of the cast call the car from 'Dukes of Hazard'?

A: The reason they don't get any residuals.

@Teela

@Teela Respectfully,

FUCK. YES. Honestly one of the best pieces of news I've read in a while.

@Teela fabulous! I recently read a book about her life.
@Teela this should have been done a LONG time ago
@Teela Love this. If not only because it doesn’t mention Twitter. But seriously - gives me hope.
