Listening now for the very first time to Link Wray after catching someone’s post about his instrumental song “Rumble.” Wondering how I managed to miss this during my teen years. It has that raw edge that I loved in rock and which is entirely missing in pop music now.

A good start to the day! I woke to find in my inbox a link to the first edit of THE MYSTIC TRUMPETER for trumpet and string orchestra- a new recording by the Zagreb Sinfonietta with Joe Hofbauer on trumpet, conducted by Miran Vaupotic. The music is a musical reflection on a poem in 8 parts by Walt Whitman.

My project setting poems by Nelly Sachs for mezzo soprano and string quartet is rolling along. Two poems done. An as yet undecided number of more poems to go.

Lovely news! Pianist Naoko Christ-Kato will perform the world premiere of a new suite, *My Garden*, on November 19th at the "Überlinger Musiktage" festival on Lake Constance. Before writing the suite, I spent time in my garden listening. It’s full of flowers and birdsong when in season.

Started in today setting several poems from Nelly Sachs’ “Flight and Metamorphosis” to music. Not entirely practical, but it seemed soprano and string quartet was right for these poems. I debated, momentarily between setting the original German or the English translation - but went with the former. The poem has stanzas framed around the statement “how light the earth will be…when…”
