Daniel Pinkwater, one of the finest authors in the world, is here at
@danielpinkwater. He'd probably love to be welcomed...
@neilhimself @danielpinkwater glad to see you here too, Neil. Big fan of your work and your advocacy for libraries

@neilhimself @danielpinkwater

Warm welcomes and great to see you with us! 🌈

@neilhimself @danielpinkwater Speaking as a lifelong Snarkout Boy, I am glad to see you on here, Mr. Pinkwater!
@neilhimself @danielpinkwater Hi Daniel! And welcome. I've been enjoying your work for years.
@neilhimself Welcome on the Fediverse then @danielpinkwater ! :)
@neilhimself @danielpinkwater Extending you both a very warm welcome to a very cool site.
@neilhimself @danielpinkwater Nothing on that profile yet. But since it's coming from you I followed.
@neilhimself @danielpinkwater As long as he brings clam chowder
@neilhimself @danielpinkwater Welcome, Daniel. I'm not familiar with your books, but if you have Neil's blessing I'm going to go check them out right now.
@neilhimself @danielpinkwater
Important question: what's his style? I'd love to read some comedy fantasy or sci-fi. (Suggestions welcome. Don't recommend Neil - read him all already.)
@neilhimself @danielpinkwater welcome to social media done sanely.
@neilhimself @danielpinkwater Yay, one of my favorites! I still have my dog-eared copy of Alan Mendelsohn, the Boy from Mars from when I was a kid. LOVE LOVE LOVE your work!!!
@neilhimself @danielpinkwater hello Daniel. You've come to the right place....
@neilhimself @danielpinkwater “The Big Orange Splot” remains one of my favorite books of all time. It’s message has guided me for decades, and I consider it an old friend.
@neilhimself @danielpinkwater oh my goodness. I can’t wait to tell my great nephew that I ‘’met’ you on Mastodon. Actually, all nieces and nephews and children who come to our house love your books. I remember you on NPR. I am a newbie on this platform a refugee from Twitter (that I once used only for sports.) If you are here it just gets better and better. Now I hit publish, right? :-D
@neilhimself @danielpinkwater Felicitations, Daniel! I don’t know your work, but thanks to Neil’s recommendation, I’ll be rectifying that.
@neilhimself Welcome @danielpinkwater !
I have such warm memories of listening to you on NPR with my mother, and of reading your books. A character musing that California can’t be proven to exist, was a mind opener to me. I wonder if I could even now, having lived there but not for 20 years. Might not even have been one of your books, I certainly can’t prove it was.
@neilhimself @danielpinkwater Welcome and Greetings! I read aloud Borgel to my students for decades! (I even have a signed copy) I also read Graveyard Book to them, Mr. Gaiman. Thank you both!
@neilhimself @danielpinkwater I remember reading the Worms of Kukumlima back in... 1984 I think? It triggered my fascination with snakes. Welcome to Mastodon, Sir!
@EJGilbert @neilhimself I'm not fascinated with snakes, but my collie dog made friends with and introduced me to an eastern black rat snake of pleasant demeanor and unbelievably huge! "Are you scared of me?" I asked the snake. "Nah, the dog says you're all right."
@neilhimself @danielpinkwater it was hearing him read his books at Eeyore’s bookstore that got me into reading! I still have The Hoboken Chicken Emergency somewhere
@neilhimself @danielpinkwater I was literally just thinking about Lizard Music yesterday! Great book.
@meander @neilhimself I agree. It is a great book. Also the first one I wrote. The next one, not quite as good, and the next, and...well, 98 more, almost none of them stinkers, but not quite up to LM. Then, finally, number 100. Which one was it? I don't mind saying. It was
@neilhimself Do you know when/if Siobán is coming to Mastodon?
@neilhimself @danielpinkwater
Welcome to the party. Still finding my way around myself.
@neilhimself @danielpinkwater welcome and wander around 🎉🤗💖🙏🙏
@neilhimself @danielpinkwater
Welcome! The Snarkout Boys and The Avocado of Death was the model for my whole life. I've fallen short, but the relish is still neon green.
@wcbdata @neilhimself Show that relish the respect you'd give a loaded gun.
@neilhimself @danielpinkwater I remember Mr Pinkwater from his awesome call-ins to CarTalk! The plight of the circumference challenged, the physics of the buttocks, and the calisthenics recommended in BMW's owner's manual. He had the delightful Magliozzi brothers in stitches!! #CarTalk #NPR
@lynneverson @neilhimself You remember a lot. The brothers used to pay me in cheap cigars that had been in someone's pocket, but I loved them.
@neilhimself @danielpinkwater Very happy to follow here on the furry arctic animal place 🐻‍❄️🦣
@danielpinkwater @neilhimself - One of the greats, introduced to me by NPR. That institution did more to shape me than Playboy Magazine. (It was close, tho.)
@neilhimself @danielpinkwater my mom knew my little brother could read, but she knew he could *comprehend* the day she heard his riotous little laugh from the other room, peaked around the corner, and witnessed him laughing maniacally at Fat Men From Space. She asked him to read it to her, and they both ended up laughing until they cried. Thank you for the laughter and joy!
@jocelyntanis @neilhimself I laugh maniacally too.
@danielpinkwater @neilhimself my mother is beside herself happy that you saw that little story! My parents wanted us to be readers, and they tried to expose us to a variety of books and styles from a very young age. My brother instantly clicked with your humour and we still feel your influence today.
@neilhimself @danielpinkwater thank you for the heads up. I adore Pinkwaters work, and I'm so happy to see him here.
@TracyRowan @neilhimself You can see me?
@danielpinkwater @TracyRowan @neilhimself we can all see you and we’re happy as carrion birds
@datn @neilhimself @TracyRowan Speaking of which there are 4 vultures taking five way up in a tree, and the collie is beside herself dancing and barking below them. Hard to tell who is having the most fun.

@danielpinkwater @datn @neilhimself ❤️❤️❤️

She really is a lovely creature. BTW, I am glad to be able to say thank you for "Fish Whistle." Not only did "The Soul of a Dog" make me weep, but the title essay made me laugh for 10 minutes and so hard that I was grateful that I had been reading in the bathroom.

And now I'm going to wish you a happy holiday season and quit bugging you. Thank you for being here.

@TracyRowan @datn @neilhimself You know the famous punchline, "Dying is easy, comedy is hard." Pathos is easy too. Soul of a Dog was originally a radio commentary, and it came on the air while Jill and I were driving. I was scared that someone blinded by tears would collide with us. No reflection on you--telling about the death of a pet is a cheap trick that will affect almost anybody, and please note, I only did it once.
@danielpinkwater @datn @neilhimself cheap or not, it touched me deeply ❤️
@danielpinkwater @neilhimself yep, there you are you handsome dog, you.
