If you're wondering what the #JohnMastodon thing is about...

...here you go. Captured by the Wayback Machine for you, as the author has since realised he'd misread the Join Mastodon account name. 😂

And thusly, the legend of John Mastodon is born.

Hypocrisy and Fear All the Way Down at Twitter

After you’ve drawn such a strong distinction on speech and human freedom, you can’t make any mistake about the side on which you belong.

@mikegalsworthy thanks for the explanation, legends and myths will always be part of being human 😁

The Lair of the CyberVillains
@mikegalsworthy John Mastodon. Seven feet tall he was, with arms like tree trunks. His eyes were like steel: cold, hard. Had a shock of hair, red, like the fires of Hell.

@marcas @mikegalsworthy

That sounds a bit like John Wayne, apart from the red hair...

@mikegalsworthy Not sure if fake, but still boosting. 🤣
@mikegalsworthy is John Mastodon the new incel boogeyman?
@mikegalsworthy @MorpheusB “The Legend of John Mastodon” is the movie title.
@mikegalsworthy Thank you - makes great sense.
@mikegalsworthy I'm enjoying the enormous amount of creativity and skill in the #JohnMastodon posts. Nice to now know where they are coming from!

@mikegalsworthy It's not only that he misread the name, but that he constructed a history for the imaginary man, based on no information at all. That's seeing misinformation in the process of birth.

As someone who rechecks things I think I already know, I can't get into the minds of people like that.

@mikegalsworthy @eveningperson this! I’m so afraid of misremembering a fact or the spelling of something, but this dude is making up shit whole cloth.
@mikegalsworthy so this guy John is old and hairy?
@mikegalsworthy Thanks Mike! I too was wondering what this is all about. It's all across my feed this morning.

@mikegalsworthy We've always known that fact-checking and proofreading were important. But we are enjoying the consequences of Join Mastoton having been misread as John Mastodon.

#JohnMastodon will run and run.

#FactChecking #Proofreading

Attached: 1 image A #JohnMastodon #ChatGPT story: Write a story about "John Mastodon", the founder of Mastodon, being banned from Twitter by its new owner, Elon Musk John Mastodon was a well-known figure in the tech industry. He had made a name for himself as the founder of Mastodon, a popular social media platform that was known for its commitment to free speech and privacy. One day, John received a notification that his Twitter account had been suspended. He was shocked and confused, as he had done nothing to violate the platform's terms of service. As it turned out, Twitter had recently been acquired by Elon Musk, and the new owner had decided to crack down on any content that he deemed "inappropriate" or "offensive." John's account had been flagged for sharing articles and opinions that were critical of Musk's business practices and policies. John was furious at this blatant censorship and decided to fight back. He reached out to his followers on Mastodon and other social media platforms, encouraging them to speak out against the injustice. He also contacted lawyers and advocacy groups, hoping to find a way to challenge the ban. As word of John's situation spread, more and more people began to speak out in support of him. Eventually, the pressure became too much for Musk and Twitter to ignore, and they were forced to reverse the ban and restore John's account. From that day on, John became even more vocal in his defense of free speech and privacy. He used his platform to speak out against censorship and advocate for the rights of individuals to express their opinions freely. And while he still faced challenges and controversies along the way, he remained committed to his principles and continued to fight for a better, more open and inclusive online community.

Neurodifferent Me
@easyenglish_bible @mikegalsworthy the urban legend says it was not a typo but a whisper by John Mastodon himself into the journalist's ear while travelling in time
@mikegalsworthy thanks for clarifying! I was so confused about this
@mikegalsworthy Thank you. All becomes clear...
It’s like a bad reboot of that childhood game “telephone”.
@mikegalsworthy John Mastodon is my baby daddy 👨 👶 😅👍
@mikegalsworthy the delights of ‘Chinese whispers’ 😂
@mikegalsworthy
Thanks for this, I thought #johnmastodon was the founder of this fediverse thingy
🤣
@mikegalsworthy lmao thats great. Our new elon musk of mastodon, john...
@mikegalsworthy Thank you for posting. I was so confused!
@mikegalsworthy “Who is John Mastodon? We are!”
@mikegalsworthy Such a shame. He and Tony Twitter used to be such good friends.
@mikegalsworthy
This is hilarious but also seriously disturbing. Misreading it is one thing. Anyone can do that. But then inventing a backstory and publishing it as fact is outrageous and all too common. All he had to do was use any readily available web search tool to search on the name, also search on "mastodon founder" to see if his supposition was correct before publushing it as fact. Far too much of what we read and hear as "news" is just made-up shit.
@mikegalsworthy Thanks for the info, yes I was wondering what all that fuzz about?, it's getting very toxic on Twitter, Elon using it as his own backyard
@mikegalsworthy we have seen his face, but when will his voice be revealed
@mikegalsworthy Thank you! I was so lost about the whole thing, and looking up John Mastodon pulls up very few relevant results but the ones that do come up say he's the founder of Mastodon which is clearly false.
@mikegalsworthy 😂😂how powerful is that.. a legend is born….I like it☺️👍
@mikegalsworthy
Something like Google and Goggle.
@mikegalsworthy Anyone who had trouble figuring out what this meant should also realize that it was just as hard for this article's author to find this. This "news" site had to have either relied on a totally obscure and unverified source or they just made this detailed nonsense up out of the blue. It's not simply an honest mistake, but extremely terrible journalism. Avoid this outlet for any info in the future.
@mikegalsworthy We’re all laughing and having a good time about this “journalist’s mistake”, (Issac Schorr) but this guy committed not only malpractice but fabricated an entire person and narrative. He should never be paid to write again. Not an innocent mistake. The chatbots write more legitimate news than this guy.
@mikegalsworthy It was not a misread of the word... it was fake news (see words after Mastodon,
@mikegalsworthy oh god, thank you 😅 I didn't understand a shit
@mikegalsworthy twitter not only blocks links to Mastodon tracking account. It blocks **all** links to the most used Mastodon servers.
@mikegalsworthy Thank you for that clarification. Hilarious mistake 😂

@mikegalsworthy Please! If you're posting an image of text, PUT THAT TEXT IN THE ALT TEXT, so that people with visual impairments can read it, too. It isn't hard. If you're posting a picture of a web page, POST THE URL.

None of this is hard.

@mikegalsworthy I think we need to protect the location and identity of #JohnMastodon a great candidate for the witness relocation program?! The legend lives! 😂😉
@mikegalsworthy John Mastodon's greatest trick was convincing you he didn't exist.
