Fascinating. According to observers Musk's blocking of #Mastodon may be considered an anticompetitive action against a rapidly growing "rival", triggering U.S. federal government involvement.
@lauren what a stunner! Such a beautiful face. Looks so soft! 🐈
@lauren This cat looks smart, like it's figuring shit out at all times.
@Ponygirl She is named after Tom Baker's "Doctor Who" companion "Leela" - She's intelligent, beautiful, and sometimes deadly.
@lauren look at those eyes! 😯
@SAKDOS The camera loves her, and she knows it.
@lauren How about a one eyed cat that smiles for the camera.
Named Moody, after Harry Potter's Mad Eye Moody
@lauren It's one part of this that would actually be worth grilling him in the Senate over.

@lauren

that's no more than wishful thinking

@lauren it may not be. We really don’t want government making lor abridging laws to limit free speech here.
@JJPeterson Free speech and anticompetitive behavior are not the same issue.
@lauren I will let legal minds decide that because I see no bright line differentiating the two here.
@JJPeterson @lauren that’s because you have the processing power of a turnip

@JJPeterson@toot.
You might want to take a look at the 1st amendment. One part of it protects us from *government* penalizing us for such things as criticizing the government (aka free speech). Anti-competitiveness is something totally different.

@lauren

@JJPeterson @lauren
Public Free speech is protected.
Private Anti-competitive behaviour is prosecuted.
Read the law and discover the difference.
@addressee @lauren
ummm, I’m pretty sure all I said was I will let people who know these things decide, mostly because I don’t care enough to read that. But thanks. You must be from Twitter.
@JJPeterson @lauren you stated you opinion. I stated mine. You must be very insecure about your position if you have to sling insults with your response.
@addressee @JJPeterson If you two want to continue arguing, please remove me from this thread and further replies. Thanks.
@lauren
You are not that special that you can’t deal with a little splash back. Grow up.
@lauren maybe Mastodon can return the favor and block Twitter? Nothing good happening there now.
@midwesterner @lauren and there's a credible argument now that it is malware.
@lostinthemidwest @lauren yes, bad idea to have the Twitter app on your phone now. Probably collecting tons of personal data.
@lauren I'm not sure how that would work out legally. how can a business be in competition with the specification
@lauren this stupid bigot omg…
@lauren I really really hope this will happen.
@lauren I told my fellow teeters to go over to the elephant site and find me at @barney6063 Of course it wasn't linked, but I think they got the picture.
I had put my #mastodon handle in my twitter profile earlier, before the man-child blocked all mastodon handles as ‘unsafe’. (complete child!) It's still there! tried to edit some of the text…wanted me to delete mastodon stuff…just cancelled the edit and left it as is.
@lauren @scribemarjie shoot the Sherman act into my veins
@lauren please let it be so. I miss ppl experiencing consequences to their own actions. 🤞
@lauren If it weren’t for Elon blocking advertising attempts, I wouldn’t be here. I found out through Reddit since my Twitter had been deactivated. Was never into Twitter at all tbh, but mastodon is a sick ass band so maybe this will be too.
@lauren Interesting. I'm not sure how legal definitions work here when the alternative is an ecosystem of federated servers, not a single opponent.
@lauren Musk would 100% be praising Mastodon's approach to free speech and decentralization if he hadn't bought #Twitter
@lauren The SEC should depose Musk in front of congress in regards to abuse of market power & anti-competitive practices. Or all the hate that isn’t removed cause the mods were fired…
@lauren I wonder what Elizabeth Warren has to say about this!
@lauren of course it is, but when is the last time someone with Musk's level of power was held accountable by the legal system in the US? The best hope for accountability on this is the EU and European regulators.

@[email protected] @[email protected] Nothing to see here, it's just peak capitalism

ruhr.social
@lauren Peak capitalism part 2

@lauren

HAHAHAHAHAHAHA OOPS

@lauren This was my first thought when I heard. It's blatant, he's daring them.
@lauren I obviously don't know the law, but it might come down to a question of which competitor has been wronged. Technically, perhaps Mastodon isn't a monolithic corporation in competition with twitter. Is that relevant from a legal point of view?
@vectamouse It would certainly be a rather novel situation. But that's how law advances.
@lauren Lone Skum's self inflicted troubles are mounting. He's fighting with employees, journalists, building owners, the EU & now US anti-trust law.
He has no chance of winning any of these disputes. Tesla shareholders may be next in line to take him on.
@lauren When I tried to post my forwarding address today, the tweet got blocked as “potentially harmful.”
