Full text search has been merged in #Mastodon `main` branch, and will be in the next (and final?) 4.2.0 beta 🎉

It is opt-in, so it will take some time to be filled with people content as they enable their profile to be indexed, but this was one of the most wanted Mastodon features for some time.

We plan to deploy it to mastodon.social and mastodon.online in the coming days to have a bit more feedback on it and see how it behaves in the wild.

Death toll has risen 36.

As firefighting efforts continue, 36 fatalities have been discovered today, Wednesday, in the Lahaina area. The 36 total includes the six deaths reported earlier today. 18 bodies were recovered / identified on Wednesday in the water around Lahaina Harbor.

The number is expected to continue to rise.

A terrible day. The fire killed dozens of people and destroyed Lahaina, including the Lahaina Hongwanji Mission (founded in 1904), Lahaina Jodo Mission (1912) and Lahaina Hokoji Shingon Mission (1902). The Shingon temple was the 1st outside Asia. The Jodo one had a rare 3-story pagoda and replica of the Kamakura Daibutsu. The Shin sangha has over 70 member families.
