Starting to unfollow people who only cross post from the bird site. I did that too for a few days when I joined Mastodon but soon realised it was a bit impolite tbh. I’m still on both but only post here now and just reply to people on the other place. Committing takes time and is a process but keep moving please. Thanks
@JeniParsons 👍it takes a while to settle in and people are reluctant to give up their comfort blanket initially.
I agree, cross posting sticks out like a sore thumb and feels disrespectful, lazy so I avoid boosting crossposts.
Might go back through my follows and older boosts to delete any from my early days (that's 6 weeks ago haha!)
@JeniParsons that's about the same as me, because I still have good friends over there.
@JeniParsons I find having a rule where I check Mastodon first and make a point of engaging here before looking at the other place helps a lot. But I never expected or wanted this platform to be Just Like Twitter, it's not my first social network and likely won't be my last. So the demise of Twitter, while sad, doesn't feel like my social world is collapsing, so much as becoming a bit more expansive.
@JeniParsons I agree and did same when I joined. Currently in #TwitterJail for daring to stand up to hard right shock jock Benny Johnson who called President Zelenskyy "an ungrateful piece of shit", because of what he wore during his incredible visit to #WashingtonDC. I got my account restricted for use of a rude word, whilst Mr Johnson can carry on spreading misinformation about #Zelenskyy, including the claim that he is "not #Christian" and that he is oppressing the #Russian #Orthodox #Church
@RobertHM75 finally mothballed my twitter feed today. Too aggressive now so that I was having to mute some followers even. Sad to leave some lovely friends behind…. Thanks for sharing your story
@JeniParsons I think maybe this sanction against me for standing up to a fascist is a blessing in disguise. An opportunity to leave the #birdsite and create a new #socialmedia existence over here. I'm not exactly missing the nasty nonsense spouted by the likes of Calvin Robinson (who blocked me for challenging how he could square being a #Christian whilst promoting the ideas of #EnochPowell) and "Canon" Phil Harris who claims to follow Christian #Nationalism alongside being an #Anglican!
@RobertHM75 gross people aren’t they, Calvin in particular.
@JeniParsons having grown up in a High (but nevertheless fairly liberal) #ChurchOfEngland church, the aggression and "Americanisation" of these wider #Anglican movements in the UK has rather taken me by surprise. I've never really come across them in the community, so I'm kind of glad I know that they are out there. I've also met some wonderful clergy on the #birdsite and I would love for them to come across to #Mastodon!
