Please help me get my followers up, folks.

@GregSargent

Keep posting good stuff and people will come.

@GregSargent Dude, this ain’t the birdsite. People will find you.
@GregSargent You help me, I'll help you!
@GregSargent Done. Care to return the favor? ;-)
@GregSargent Good to see you on here!
@GregSargent Talk to WaPo about standing up their own Mastodon instance for all their journalists. Uncensorable!
@GregSargent shares some of the best political insights you'll read in the larger mainstream news publications. Y'all give him a follow and check out his work over at WaPo.
@GregSargent I’ve heard as others have replied, that it’s not about number of followers - are you following lots of people?
@GregSargent You should bring out your great content, and the followers will come. There's no need to ask for followers.
@GregSargent Will you be following more people? Or are you looking for more of a broadcast network?
@GregSargent are you following back, engaging and boosting? That's the best way to get followers here
@GregSargent here’s a guy that gets it

@GregSargent You might need new metrics. Engagement works a bit different here and you're likely to get a lot more views of your website content with comparitively few followers.

Hang in there.

@GregSargent
welcome to mastodon Greg. I was one of the people that watched your tweets. Hope this works out for us all.

@GregSargent
Maybe you can get journalists to look into yesterday's big story people are ignoring:
https://www.justice.gov/opa/pr/former-twitter-employee-sentenced-42-months-federal-prison-acting-foreign-agent

The Saudis --and no doubt other elites intent on punishing journalists-- have a friend in Elon and probably a backdoor to Twitter.

Former Twitter Employee Sentenced to 42 Months in Federal Prison for Acting as a Foreign Agent

A California man was sentenced yesterday to 42 months in federal prison for his role in accessing, monitoring and conveying confidential and sensitive information that could be used to identify and locate Twitter users of interest to the Saudi Royal Family.

@GregSargent happy to help, you are one of my favorite Washington Post columnists.
@GregSargent dont forget to follow a few people. #Socialmedia is about interaction not just broadcasting. See what others are thinking/sharing on #Mastodon #FridayFollow
@GregSargent It's not a numbers game on here.
@GregSargent and your here now I was looking for you because i follow on the bird...
@GregSargent I'm generally good about following back 😉
Why? @GregSargent You only did 19 posts here on Mastodon and follow 12 people.
@GregSargent my request has been "pending" for a day or two - usually means your instance is taking some time working through the queue
@GregSargent Glad to see you here, followed ✌️
@GregSargent Hey Greg, Glad to see you here!

@GregSargent - We are coming.

I got on mastodon a while back but “forgot” about it due to lack of knowing how to find journalists who were actually on the platform.

The latest EM shenanigans causing an efflux of journalists from that hate-site jolted me back here where I’m now finding great lists of those to follow and am building my mastodon experience.

Post here and amplify those lists of journalists going around and your base will hopefully find you. Good luck!

@GregSargent Hey folks Greg is one of the best journalists and political analysts out there. I've been following him since his days at Talking Points Memo @joshtpm Seriously name any amazing writer you know and they've been partnered with Greg at The Plum Line on the WaPo

@GregSargent BTW, I've really been enjoying your WaPo work but after they raised the price for the digital subscription, I decided the value wasn't there for me personally.

Many years ago, I played a lot of "Sim City" and I found that when you raise taxes on the population too much, they tend to flee your city and then you end up with less total revenue than before. You might want to pass that along to WaPo management. ;-)

@GregSargent Happy to. But you could help others boost their follower counts as well. Hint, hint.

@GregSargent Even if they aren’t following you, everyone on your home server will see your posts if they’re looking at their “LOCAL” feed—so the “reach” metrics are different here. Also, more than on Twitter, people look for follow backs and a sense we’re equals (and the minds I’m seeing here are superb).

Tell your editors your actual reach is the number of people in the Fediverse (~800k. Anyone have the number?) and the number of people on your home server (ask your SysOp).

@GregSargent
@georgetakei is the most followed here so maybe follow him to ask for a boost?
@GregSargent welcom and thanks! L searched for you at plum line ;)

@GregSargent Dod you see this thread from AG?

AG ✌️⭕️✨ (@[email protected])

Welcome to all the new transplants from the bird site! I love seeing all the new names! P.S. Did you know you can navigate to a directory of everyone on the server? Follow away! 😎

@GregSargent I followed you. You also need a pinned intro post with hashtags. I’ll help you out with a few. #introductions #journalists #media #twittermigration
@GregSargent I’ll follow if you reciprocate 🙃
@GregSargent
Suggestion: make yourself easier to find.
Edit your Twitter bio or pinned tweet to include "@ GregSargent @ journa . host"
(no spaces). It's not a live link, so Twitter isn't blocking that form of address (yet), but the Debirdify, Fediboost, and Movetodon services will pick it up.
@GregSargent This is not the way. You already have 2300 followers and follow back…12? Nah dog, I’ll follow you when I either feel like we might be in community, or when I don’t want to miss out on your content.
@GregSargent Sure! Kindly follow back.

@GregSargent why?

I'm not being snarky.

@GregSargent So, you don't have any hashtags, and I didn't see anyone laying out that Mastodon search is based on them. If you're looking for engagement, include relevant hashtags so your post will come up in searches. For example, you might want to tag #USNews, #USPolitics, #wapo and #washingtonpost if you're posting news stories or opinions in that newspaper. I'm not much of a poster, but that's advice that many newcomers are not following from the people who have been here for awhile.
