Very important post from @caseynewton on "Why it's time to start leaving Twitter behind"
I recommend reading the whole piece:

"Now, awaiting Musk’s latest tweets, I find myself anxious that one of his former employees could be physically assaulted or worse... I don’t want to provide, even in the smallest of ways, a respectable backdrop against which hate speech against my fellow LGBTQ people, or Black or Jewish or any other people, can flourish."

@caseynewton Fantastic reporting, as always. Thanks for the inside scoops.
"The email was sent to members less than an hour before they were scheduled to have their first meeting since May."
Classy as always.
Look if you can't afford an artist to do an article header image for you, just leave it out.
@caseynewton While I understand yet another social network, I hope you actively enjoy your time here on mastodon.
Your reporting in this issue was heartfelt and I feel the same as you about how leaving twitter is akin to a divorce. You’re so fortunate to have the Platformer audience to yourself. Many (including me) don’t have that luxury.
@caseynewton nice to find you here in the safety of the #fediverse.
Cheers.
“The thing is, there have always been good reasons to quit Twitter. From the beginning, people found that the platform was too distracting, too depressing, too polarizing, too addictive. It riled them up and brought them down. It shredded their attention and made once-common tasks, such as reading books, feel impossible.
Quitting Twitter is, in fact, the default outcome for anyone who ever created an account.”
👆spot on…
@caseynewton your latest mailer mirrors my exact feelings about Musks insanity over the weekend.
I deleted my account last night, and I feel great about it!
@caseynewton several orgs are already doing this, EU has their own server for its govt officials, Internet Archive runs a server for its employees, the main benefit is automatic verification, also you set the rules, own your data, don’t have to worry about moderation much as it’ll be just people from your org, and basically be unbannable.

@caseynewton This is spot on. I’ve been arguing that depriving Twitter of engagement needs to be the objective.
The ‘stay [on Twitter] and fight’ crowd misses the point that their engagement is Twitter’s lifeblood. Deprive Twitter of your engagement and see Twitter wither.
This can be achieved many ways; we may have different plans that work for each of us, as Casey does here. Hopefully an alternative platform e.g. Mastodon can gain critical mass and take Twitter’s place.
@caseynewton a great post (as usual)!
It was the extra push I needed to leave as well. Thanks
First day on Mastodon 👋
can you please explain what you don't like about Mastodon? maybe you have done so somewhere already...
