We are committing a slow moving civilizational suicide.
At the current birth rate of 1.25, there will be less than a million genetic Finns after 90 years. The same is happening in most of the so called first world.
It is entirely possible that the birth rate will continue to shrink significantly further. South Korean birth rate in 2024 is 0.67.
Already in the near future, the world's working age population will come from those countries where families are still started and the birth rate is above the sustenance level of 2.1.
We will see a massive, rapid rise of the influence of cultures and religions that are able to motivate people to start families and have kids.
It is entirely possible that the human rights in those cultures and religions are not respected at the level we are used to in the first world.
The first world has two options: take in enough immigrants to keep the local population pyramid from collapsing, or accept the collapse.
If we decide to accept immigrants at the replacement rate, the influx will have to be massive in every country.
For Finland, it will mean at minimum 45,000 immigrants a year. It is quite likely we will settle to do this, as the maintenance of government debt will otherwise become impossible.
The main question here is, how will the local culture shift as a result of this migration? A major portion of our local cultural heritage is at risk of going extinct, including our language.
If we refuse to shrink the population, by 2080 half of the people in Finland will be immigrants.
How will the politics, culture, and society change as a result? Will there be more violence? Will our human rights standards decline? Will our Nordic welfare society collapse?
These are some very difficult questions, which we will have to ask ourselves already now, because we already know where this is heading.
