Anyone… and I mean ANYONE want to hire my #Canadian wife in the United States? We’ll go anywhere.

I need to get back home, and as quickly as possible.

A green card application for us could take 12-20 months. A work visa would be ideal. She is Master’s level educated, works in #Banking w/ #Tech and #ProjectManagement experience.

I am chronically ill and need help asap.

Boosts appreciated.

Help me out here, folks. Would it be appropriate to crowd fund to help make this happen? It’s going to cost us nearly 4k Canadian dollars to get the green card application filed + lawyer fees. I’m unable to work - We can’t afford that, like ever. But I also feel bad asking anyone to help us, as I know everyone is fighting their own battle.

Feedback and ideas are greatly appreciated.

@britt I mean, GoFundMe's exist for things like this... right? It sounds like you need a #support structure and you obviously live in the #lgbt community. No one gets to where they're going on their own. Let us help us.
@mentallyalex this made me smile ear to ear. Thank you. I need to get all the financial costs together for full transparency before I ask for anything from anyone. But I’ve been at 45% salary on LTD through the entire pandemic and all this inflation and we just can’t do it alone. My wife has recently been off on disability caretaking for me. The funds just aren’t there - I hope we could find some understanding support.

@britt I wouldn’t feel bad about crowdfunding. Yeah, a lot of people are going through something, including me. But there’s absolutely nothing wrong about advocating for yourself and/or a loved one.

Besides, even if you don’t get all you need, you’re likely to get something. And something is better than nothing!

@digichelle Thanks Michelle.  You’ve helped lift my spirits.
@britt do you have a resume or link to a profile I can look at to see if anyone I know would be a fit?
@britt boosted & wishing you only the best.
@britt I really hope you get better soon. Very sorry to hear that.
@britt I'll check with my company.
@FreiGuy86 thank you!! I think she’s need sponsorship but only until we can secure her a green card, so a temporary commitment not long term

@britt cool. I'll talk to recruiting about it. Here's what I have worked on so you know what you might be in for.

They tend to do short contract work so i cant promise anything.

@FreiGuy86 So that’s an incredible resume! Living the dream, sounds like fantastic rewarding work.

Thank you for being willing to look into things.

@britt uh... is the provision of medical care in the US better than in Canada? I would have thought just the opposite was true... good luck, best wishes. XOXO
@ulli yes, it’s significantly beyond broken and terrible here. I would need to write a novel to describe the neglect and full on refusal of services. I have had doctors and nurses say to my face the system is crumbling and patients like me will not get the care we need to survive. It’s wartime like medicine here, and the disabled are being offered MAiD instead of medical care.
@britt @ulli I definitely hope the best for you, but if you want healthcare here, bring buckets of $$$$ I pay $500 a month for insurance and can't afford to use it.
@Ponygirl @ulli I’m American, I know how it works. My family and many of my best friends are there too. Trust me, it runs circles around the incompetency up here. I’ve had my own family doctor, who is also American, tell me to go back home because I will not get care here. Simply not enough doctors or specialist.
@britt @ulli What a state we're in. Sad 😔
@Ponygirl @ulli it’s a very big sad. I remember being back home (SF Bay Area) and always getting the care I needed. I know it’s not 7 years ago anymore but I’m willing to take a chance. It’s all I’ve got.
@britt @ulli Sending good vibes ✨️ 😊
@britt I really hope it works out for you, that you get the care you need and deserve! Should you ever need a path consultation, just say the word. It's increasing digital by now, we do international consultations all the time via web. Best wishes! XOXO

@britt @ulli

Warning: it's actually worse in large parts of the US. I am not kidding. Here, the doctors and nurses just infect you with Covid-19.

People were dying in the hallways BEFORE Covid-19, and average ER waiting times in my local hospital were 16+ hours.

(Wait times dropped when Covid arrived because people stopped going to the hospital at all.)

Cheapest out-of-pocket medical insurance here is $5K/year, so you need an employer who will pay for it all or you can't afford it.

@britt @ulli

If you can get into the right city with the right employer paying for insurance it's OK, but out here in rural and small-town America....

@neroden @britt Yeah, that was my impression too from all I heard about the US health care system (which mostly stems from the ER series or books, never been there, nor do I want to... just don't want to be shot). Top-level health services if you can pay them, but basic or being left to your own devices if you happen to be poor.

@ulli @britt

It's also geographical here. Even if you're rich, the rural hospitals have been left to rot, so if you have an emergency in a rural area and you can't get medevaced to a big city.... oh well, money won't do much good

@britt email me their resume... [email protected]
@Sapiophielle you are ever so kind. I have an appt at the hospital this afternoon but I’ll have her email you when we get home. Procedure usually takes 3-5 hours? (I go in twice a week)… would that be okay?
@britt yeah no rush. I work for a tech firm in DC and there are always different opportunities. I'll get you in contact with the right people.
@britt please forgive my ignorance but wouldn’t it be better for you to stay in Canada because of its health care system? Or doesn’t it apply for you because of reasons? I’m genuinely just curious, that’s all.

@pnpnerd it’s a very very long story but the Canadian system is not what the world thinks it is. It would take me a novel to describe the medical trauma and negligence I’ve endured in this system. It might be free, and excellent at helping if you have a minor infection, broken bone, etc… but chronically ill patients like myself are given the option for MAiD instead of actual medical care.

I never had close to these issues with the American system as a citizen.

@britt thanks for taking your time to explain it. Honestly, I know nothing at all about the Canadian health care system. I wish both of you all the best.
@pnpnerd hey anytime. Thank you for caring enough to ask.  Appreciate it.
@britt try Jacksonville, Florida banks. Financial cos., etc

@britt Why not come to Canada? Better health care among other things
@Moving_Pictures … … I’m *in* Canada. I’ve been here for 7 years and I’m married to a Canadian. I have had horrific care here and only continue to deteriorate.

@britt
Can't say the same at all. Hip replacement six months after the decision was made, tremendous emergency care when my thumb lost a battle with a table saw ....

Swami says "move out of Ontario."

@Moving_Pictures I’ve lived in ON too. Like I’ve said in other posts, Canada is good for one off procedures: I.e. antibiotics, a broken bone, a surgery, etc. But for chronic illness? Nope. Ask any of us. I need to see a disease specialist and after acceptance the wait is 2.5 YEARS. Years. Local Internal Medicine doctors reject my referrals. My family doctor says “I’ve hit my knowledge limit with your care”

So, instead I’m set to suffer. Wait. And wait. And wait.

@Moving_Pictures @britt I feel the same people trying to help and offer solutions are the one who blast US healthcare on other platforms. Yet here they are trying to get back in to see those sweet doctors and amazing treatments.

@britt

An H1B application (between finding the job and getting the visa) can take just as long. I suggest you start with the green card asap and if she gets an offer you can start with the H1B. Do you have a good immigration lawyer?

@FuckElon this is a good point, and we’re definitely looking at what could happen if we tried both simultaneously. We need an immigration lawyer, certainly, but will need the funds to do so.

@britt

Mine (who was fantastic) has retired but she will certainly be able to refer someone if you want. Best of luck.

@FuckElon hey thanks! I’m open to any and all help with this for sure. There are tons of places listed online but it’s hard to know who/what company is trustworthy.
@britt State of California is hiring project managers, mostly in Sacramento (where I live). Local county governments are also having issues hiring good PMs, particularly with tech experience.
@PaysonHall this is great to hear, thank you. I loved my 7 years in Cali.
@britt check out DLL. I am sure there may be something available for her.

@Zsmith515 hey thank you! This is great
@britt I work at National General Insurance and we are hiring. They list on LinkedIn I think and if she finds something she's qualified for I would be willing to give a recommendation.
@bishop84 hey thanks a ton! I’ll relay 😎
@britt
I shared this - I wish your wife success in finding a job, so you can come back & get the care you need. With a Master's degree, she could teach. Could she get a job with TD Bank & get transferred here?? Anyway, best of luck.

@lolonurse lucky enough she’s with TD here in Canada actually! Great thought on a transfer…thanks for the encouragement.

I wonder if she’d need more teaching credentials… hmmm
