FediTips has moved!

Three tips for people using #Mastodon through a computer:

1. You can stop timelines scrolling automatically by going to Preferences > Slow Mode, tick box and click "Save Changes".

2. There are loads of "hidden" keyboard shortcuts. Press shift + ? (or just ? on some keyboards) to see a complete list of them.

3. There's an optional Tweetdeck-style multicolumn interface called "advanced mode". Go to Preferences > Enable Advanced Web Interface, tick box and click "Save Changes".

@czarbucks @feditips Not that I know of, but it was quite self explainatory. Just log in with your instance and user and authorize it to access your account. then you have tabs on top to switch between the feeds, a search option and settings. It is not multi-column but on the other hand it does not use as much memory as the regular web client

@feditips to add to number 3, in advanced mode, you can pin basically anything to its own column. This works for lists, hashtags, notifications, etc.

@feditips Does #1 have any effect on the Explore timeline of posts? More often than not it's unusable to me since whenever I go back from clicking into a post it resets its position to an arbitrary point far up on the timeline from the post I interacted with.

If one leaves the auto-scrolling turned on, does it only work for Home, if one has all those TD-styled columns? I seem to have to manual jump up in everything else.

@feditips Is there a way to pick up where you left off if you’ve closed the tab? My experience has been that it will display the top of the timeline when I go back. So I need to keep the tab open (and hope the browser or computer doesn’t have to restart).

@kalonjelen @feditips I thought chronological was the only option? The only toots in my feed that seem out of place are all boosts, which seem to be time stamped for the original toot.

@chrislmctravel Start by filling in your profile. And follow lots of people. (Find them by searching on hashtags that interest you). Make a List of the ones you are interested in monitoring, and pin that if you’re using advanced browser mode. Writing an # introduction toot also helps.
