And how would I best get a domain to point to my own stuff safely so that I might have jellyfin.my.domain and matrix.my.domain, etc. for anything I want to host? Tailscale is frequently recommended, but it would be too big of a hurdle for my friend group to get on a server for a Discord replacement, and I understand services like Cloudflare don't want me to use their services to access Jellyfin.

I keep hearing that it's a big security no-no to just forward ports to the relevant servers, but I don't really comprehend why; I used to port forward for game servers all the time. Can anyone scare me straight?

Eurogamer just gave ARC Raiders a 2/5 even though they liked the game, because it uses generative AI, and they're taking a principled stance against it. I don't care at all about how that game uses AI, but someone please refer me to a review outlet that will take the same principled stance and trash a game in its review for being always-online and denying you proper ownership. I'll subscribe to their Patreon, if they exist.

Live service is poison, and I'm looking for a reviewer who actually prioritizes ownership and preservation in their reviews, if one exists. I hope one exists.

Me: If they let you host the server yourself, you could play right now, with your friends, and fill in the other slots with bots while they sort that stuff out.
That so many people accept the state of things is crazy.
I hate when people use the term "single player" to mean "the opposite of live service". Baldur's Gate 3 is not live service and can be played entirely in multiplayer. Tons of multiplayer games, even in the live service era, are definitively not live service games. Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League is a live service game that will soon only be playable in single player.
What is an actual good term for "not live service"?

When I see Concord come out and bomb, I think that maybe the game industry can start healing, and perhaps consumers have finally turned on live service games. Then I have to remind myself that Helldivers 2 came out earlier this year, so there's still a long way to go.
