Adirondack Interpretive Center, Newcomb, Essex County, New York, September 2014
Not my usual lane, but I'll dip my toe into #FungiFriday. We were visiting the #Adirondack Interpretive Center in #Newcomb, NY. It was September, after a wet summer, so #Fungi were found in abundance.
I've uploaded them to #iNaturalist for expert attention.
First up, this gilled #mushroom growing out of the trunk of a fallen hemlock, which was itself sprouting new growth.

A rock tripe, #Umbilicaria species. I've also seen these in the #Catskills.
Another NOID gilled #Mushroom (#Agaricales), this one growing out of the "ground" beneath hemlocks (which could be covering a long-fallen log).

A very cool little #Fungus that looked like ears growing out of an old log.
Yet another NOID gilled #Mushroom (#Agaricales) emerging from the ground.

A super-cool and vividly colored fringed #fungus/#mushroom. When I uploaded this today, #iNaturalist immediately identified it as eyelash cups, #Scutellinia. I had never noticed the fringes on the perimeter of the cups!
A lovely coral #fungus. This growth pattern occurs across many different lineages, some more clearly upright, like this one.
Slightly out of order to provide a comparison. Here's the other "coral" #fungus I found. This one is less strictly structured than the previous one.
Last is another maybe #mushroom growing out of the ground.
You can check out all the #Fungi I found on that day on #iNaturalist. I want to get to this little (comparatively) park again someday.
