A group at Johns Hopkins has created a scrollable, interactive map of the entire universe, from here to the cosmic microwave background.

The Map of the Universe

@coreyspowell that’s fantastic and amazing. I love things like this
@coreyspowell I thought I was looking at a Mario Mendoza spray chart.
@coreyspowell Would be more helpful if there was a "You Are Here" arrow. Just sayin'.
@R47HK3 @coreyspowell
The Total Perspective Vortex has been proven to be bad for your health, though.
@coreyspowell Where is the "You are here" sign? 😀

@coreyspowell

This is so incredibly cool

Hubby and I spend a lot of free time learning about the cosmic microwave background and thinking about cosmology. He's a data scientist and a bit of a math enthusiast.

I like it when this stuff blows my mind in a fun way!

@coreyspowell thank you. I must share this with friends!🙏🏽🌌
@coreyspowell My inner nine year old is not prepared for this wonder.
@Kerry Time to call up the inner 10 year old!
@coreyspowell Well this knocked my socks off!
@coreyspowell This is fantastic! Thank you for sharing. 😃
@coreyspowell you can get prints of all sorts if you follow the link
@coreyspowell Very cool. Thanks for sharing.
@coreyspowell If the universe was a baseball field basically
@coreyspowell whoa. Fascinating and thank you! Gotta share with my friends & fam!
@coreyspowell Everyone has already said it, but I’ll add mine: this is a childhood and adult dream come true. Amazing, thanks for sharing!
@coreyspowell I was sure I was looking at Aliens on the tracking scanner
@coreyspowell No time now. Bookmarking for later. How much time should I set aside to go through the whole universe.
@odmica @coreyspowell 14b years or so should do it

@coreyspowell

this is the coolest thing ever 🌌

thank you for sharing 🖖🏽

@coreyspowell But can it find The Last Jedi?
@coreyspowell i had a star chart that you could rotate to set the time. the same, basically
@coreyspowell
re: Cosmic background radiation
Arno Penzias often jokes ~ "Most people get Nobels for things they were looking for, we got one for something we were trying to get rid of."
@coreyspowell I just want to know where the Walgreens is.
@coreyspowell what are the chances of adding an “ask a physicist” box to the site? Specifically - if we know it looks like the same from other galaxies, how can it also be a sphere? Or say you’re piloting a star ship in the 2Xth century, what coordinates do you enter to get from Earth (or Milky Way, whatever is a sensible starting point) to a RandomGalaxyInBlueBand and what’s to a RandomGalaxyInRedBand?
@coreyspowell that really is amazing. Thanks for posting
@coreyspowell this is amazing! Thank you.
@coreyspowell When I was a kid this would have been pure sci-fi.
@coreyspowell when I was a kid- the concept of a personal computer/tablet was… scoffable, and now here we are!
@coreyspowell this is crazy. Yet there is still so much we don't even know about our oceans

@coreyspowell this is remarkable. And for some reason, the sentence hurts my brain:

“We cannot see anything beyond this point. The light travel time to us is greater than the age of the Universe.”

@coreyspowell This is awesome. Thanks so much for sharing! 😊

@coreyspowell I remember the excitement of connecting to a NASA gopher server with my 1200 baud modem to download some random picture like I was living in the future.

The terminal resized itself to 120 columns or so and I was surprised that could happen and my Uncle John explained "they're the government. They can do anything!"

@coreyspowell points deducted for lack of “you are here” arrow.
