I am on my way to the European Conference on Ethics and Integrity in Academia in Uppsala that is starting today.
I spent the night in Schonen and am now waiting for my train. I have to change twice, so I hope that SJ is more punctual than DB.
I will be presenting on a puzzling case of plagiarism and have a poster about our look into the ethical use of AI in research. We encountered lots of issues...
Having seen many signs, I did a different one for NoKings in Palo Alto, maybe a bit more subtle, but:
1) Has DOGE collected any personal data? (Or just interested in “efficiency”?)
2) A Palo Alto company named from Lord of the Rings orb, often used by gov’t, might be relevant.

We now have a political assassin impersonating a police officer on the loose in Minnesota, which, aside from being horrifying in and of itself, underscores the danger of the proliferation of anonymous federal law enforcement deployments from a wide variety of unfamiliar agencies conducting aggressive immigration operations across the country.

Is that uniformed person who's stopping you or demanding entry to your home legit or a psychotic vigilante seeking to harm you? It's impossible to know.

@JohnMashey @aaron @paul_ipv6 @jerry I have very fond memories of that wire running through the ceiling. Not to mention having thin-net running around high density offices made life even more fun.

Image of actual device that operated at MIPS for reference. Removed when we switched over to twisted pair networking.

@JohnMashey Oh man, coax ethernet, the memories!

When I was still working in telecom, in 2017, doing a datacenter walkthrough I was in the basement and noticed a Thinnet repeater that was still powered on and the LEDs indicated it was still passing traffic.

Showed it to some coworkers; we debated unplugging it to see what would break, but ultimately left it there.

... because we realized, if it made it another five or so years, odds would be nearly 100% that the tech dispatched when it failed wouldn't have been born yet when it was installed.

BIG, JUST IN: Judge Charles Breyer finds that President Trump exceeded the scope of his authority and violated the 10th Amendment by federalizing the California National Guard and orders him to return control to Governor Newsom. 1/

Court comes right back with Marbury v. Madison and Cohens v. Virginia, two bedrock precedents from early 1800s.

‘“It is emphatically the province and duty of the judicial department to say what the law is.” Marbury v. Madison, 5 U.S. (1 Cranch) 137, 177 (1803). Thus, federal courts have “no more right to decline the exercise of jurisdiction which is given, than to usurp that which is not given.” Cohens v. Virginia, 19 U.S. (6 Wheat.) 264, 404 (1821).’ 10/

Kristi Noem, Director of Homeland Security and Barbie Makeovers has just announced that the the US intends to occupy California and force regime change of governor and mayor of LA.

This is blatantly illegal invasion.

Padilla's assault & handcuffing is getting all the attention, but what Noem said is perhaps more terrifying.

"We are not going away. We are staying here to liberate the city from the socialists and the burdensome leadership that this governor and that this mayor have placed on this country and what they have tried to insert into the city."

Admitting they're not here for violent criminals, they're here to overthrow our elected officials

#BREAKING Hell yeah! Keep ‘em coming!
