I've been photographing the night sky with my Pixel 6 Pro trying to find an eerie space where the ground and the sky meet...
Here are a few from last night.
@neilhimself Looking at the first three images and then just glancing at the 4th made me think I was looking at a Borg cube 😆
@clipperchip @neilhimself And news reports flood out to the comic sites, he's writing Star Trek!
The world awaits in anticipation
"Um I was just taking photos with my phone."
The world gasps in dismay.
@neilhimself Amazing photographs! You must live somewhere with little to no light pollution.
@neilhimself ok I need to upgrade from my Pixel 5, even if it doesn't fit in my pocket.
@willigula @neilhimself
I've resisted for the same reason. Now I'm thinking maybe just get a 6 and use it as a camera without a SIM card ...
@kwagner @neilhimself use your small pocket phone as a wifi hotspot for your camera/browser phone.
@willigula
Good idea. Thanks!
There's a $150 promo for the 7 Pro, plus $350 for a trade-in (not the P5 that I love). So I got that for $499 (w/256GB).
@willigula @neilhimself Yeah, I considered availing myself of the 6a or 7 discounts, but they're so tall. The 4a is about as tall as I want.
@neilhimself These all have different vibes while simultaneously the same overarching vibe. The low-light sharpening really adds to it, I think!

@neilhimself

Ooh, on a phone? 😮 Is that the milky way in the first picture?

@FediThing it is!
@neilhimself @FediThing is there an extended exposure function on the Pixel 6 Pro? Or are you utilizing an app for that?
@neilhimself I almost can feel the atmosphere
@neilhimself Pretty impressive. I’ve wanted to give it a go with the iPhone but need less Toronto sky
@neilhimself are you using a tripod? I have a Pixel 6 as well... amazing camera.
@mattsingley It needs a tripod to go into astro mode.
@neilhimself makes sense... I will give it a shot.
@neilhimself
Beautiful pics. I envy these sights...=)
@neilhimself great job capturing the magic!
@neilhimself Where is this? I don't think Ive ever seen this many stars in my life.
@neilhimself Would you believe I'm 47 years old, and I've never been somewhere that was dark enough to see the Milky Way while the moon was new/set? These pictures are terrific.

@spatula @neilhimself I'm a year younger than you and I have! We used to go camping in the mountains when I was a kid and the stars were like this.

Search for an #astrophotography group near you, they make field trips to places without light pollution and are very cool with newbies!

@lanika thanks for the tip! We did a trip to Great Basin National Park years ago and it was beautiful at night, but alas our trip coincided with a full moon, so it was a bit too bright to see the Milky Way. It gets super dark out there though. From where I live it's probably at least a two hour drive to get away from the light pollution.

@spatula A night like tonight is a thing of beauty on a forest. New Moon gives the night sky a beauty that I have no words to describe, only emotions.

Full moon is great for walking between trees chasing herbs or just moon bathing near a waterfall. It seems to shine even brighter without air pollution.

@neilhimself I'm getting media hidden?
@EllieATF @neilhimself you should still be able to click on the images, they just open in a new window. Possibly due to being .webp images.
@EllieATF @neilhimself adjust your preference settings, I had the same issue
@neilhimself All of these are stunning! My favorite is the one with the grasses across the bottom. Do you mind if I use the shed photo as a reference for painting a nativity scene? It's beautiful!
@neilhimself I have a pixel 6 pro and can't get my night sky pics to look like that! Are they done using a tripod and time-lapse?
@Tiggytam you need a tripod. Then go to Night Mode on your camera app , point the camera at the stars and wait a moment. The moon will become stars. Then press it.
@neilhimself @Tiggytam thanks! I had no idea this phone could do that! Gorgeous shots!
@neilhimself where were you when you took that amazing photos?
@neilhimself how do you like your pixel 6? Pros & cons? I miss having a pixel phone
@neilhimself These are stunning. Thank you for sharing. The one with the trees in the foreground looks like how your writing appears in my head.
@neilhimself That first one fits the bill. The foreground is a bit bright, but it lends a sense of trespass- a forbidden witness or some such.
@neilhimself i was just absolutely enraged by some terrible news and this made me stop and breathe for a moment and appreciate something beautiful. thank you for that 💛
@neilhimself it's incredibly beautiful
@neilhimself these are stunning. Thank you for sharing!
@neilhimself even considering the noisy cellphone sensor, the pictures look great. Congrats!
@neilhimself do you use any special settings? I am not much of a photographer but I'm fascinated by the capability of my P6P
