Alright, time for a proper intro!

Hello y'all my name is John Mav, an avid learner who flip-flops between being an introvert and an extrovert. I live in 🌲#Seattle / the #pnw but was born and raised in the πŸŒ‰#BayArea, so still getting used to the snow and rain. I live out with my wonderful wife and two πŸ•#dogs.

I'm a huge πŸ’#hockey and πŸ“ˆ#hockeyanalytics geek, love to watch 😱#scarymovies, love πŸ‘¨β€πŸ³#cooking, #baking, and am a total #foodie. Enjoy playing 🧌#dnd with friends.

Professionally I am a Sr. Analytics Engineer at 🚒#flexport. Previously built the πŸ™#seattlekraken hockey operations data pipelining and warehousing solutions. Prior to that did data infrastructure design for ✍️#hellosign and was a data analytics Engineer at πŸ‘¨β€πŸ«#udacity. Love all things data in general and am currently learning the ins and outs of πŸ¦†#duckdb.

Finally fun fact about me, I played πŸ‰#rugby for 10 years and can still throw a solid back hand pass.

@johnmav I also did the #Udacity data analytics bootcamp 😁
@spelled_with_a_k I loved that Nanodegree track πŸ€“
@johnmav @spelled_with_a_k hello! I’m about to start a nanodegree with Udacity πŸ˜„
I see your happy with the experience, any advise? πŸ€“
@neeres Try and do a little bit everyday and I used to always encourage students to research further on optics independently via Google. A lot of the topics covered are covered by other free resources well, but it is a matter of knowing what you need to look for. What Nanodegree are you going to be doing?
@neeres @johnmav definitely block off time to do it. I was working from home at the time, so I was able to do my job in the morning and I always dedicated 3 hours in the afternoon Monday-Friday so I could finish on time. I found it well paced.
@johnmav @spelled_with_a_k πŸ€“ thank you for the good advices. I’m going to do Full Stack Web Developer a lot of python, SQL, JavaScript and Kubernetes.
@neeres @johnmav I knew sql going into my program, but I had no experience with python before. I felt pretty good about my python skills after. They also do a good job with mixing up instructors and the projects are fun!
@spelled_with_a_k @johnmav πŸ€“ happy to hear all your good experiences. I can’t wait to start!
@neeres @johnmav which degree are you doing?
