🔴 I don't know where we should go.. 🟡Me I always upload gifs via gboard. But for the web ui, gifs turned into mp4s works better from what experienced as they get converted into such by Mastodon regardless.
ezgif.com is a pretty good tool for doing all sorts of things with gifs such as converting to mp4.

Earthworm 🐌In the search bar, you can search keywords with the hashtags. e.g. #Mastodon
Not having a search function with free text is a decision made by the devs. It is to avoid trolls being able to search the entire fediverse to find people to harrass (think e.g. the sentence "I am trans").
This decreases functionality a bit, therefore it is so important to add many hashtags under your toot so other people can find it.
@earthworm @NorthEastOne @feditips It also decreases the functionality of, for example, somebody who wants to find people who are trans to support them or to receive support. This is a huge decrease in functionality.

Are you writing the handle correctly (adding an @ before the name)?
Also I recommend to use the browser for accessing mastodon (the official app has some issues) or e.g. Tusky for android.
JackRussell02@lucyimperial @feditips debirdify helps you find find accounts you followed on the bird app tht have a Mastodon id in the bio. Only a small %age will have hits, but it will help get you started.

CubeOfCheese@feditips I've been trying to figure out the difference between the buttons. I know the arrows means boost which reposts the toot and spreads it to more people. Then there's the favourite and bookmark button and I'm not sure what they do.

The star (favourite) is to make the author of the toot know that you appreciate/agree with them. Nobody else can see it.
When you bookmark a toot, you can find it afterwards in your bookmarks list. Really helpful when you see a good toot and want to save it for later.

Cruising the Cut@feditips Excellent guide. I'm baffled why I can't search for people by name, is that deliberate? And with one friend, I'm even typing their full Mastodon account into search and they don't come up, help!!
Brook, Lord of Glencoe@cruisingthecut @feditips I believe it’s uneasiness is to ensure some users don’t scour the Fediverse for accounts to spam. @infrontofnames & #infrontofthings when searching, or find people elsewhere and copy/paste their Mastodon name from, like how I found you!
kateyay@cruisingthecut try typing their full account name in, like @cruisingthecut and you should be able to find. Many larger instances are slow at the moment as there are so many new people leaving Twitter! It will get better though. Good luck and welcome!
@kateyay That's what I did, including their server. No joy.
@cruisingthecut that's a little odd. Have you tried on an app? Search seems to work better for me on a non-native one like Tusky or Tooot. Or- perhaps ask them to share a link to their profile or recreate it for yourself? Eg your page is https://mastodonapp.uk/@cruisingthecut - this should work for them too, https://server/@username
