An Incredible Day In Internet History
It started with the Twitter lockout. 10,000 new users per hour. A QUARTER MILLION people migrated to Mastodon in one day. The servers struggled. Remarkably, admins all over the world built up capacity in real time. New users were patient. The system held.
It's running better now. There will be more hard days ahead, but people powered social media has arrived.
My publisher Tor Books and Goodreads are giving away advance hardcopies of my next novel, "Red Team Blues," a Silicon Valley forensic accounting thriller about a cryptocurrency heist - enter here to win a copy:

@mastodonusercount The migration to Mastodon is not slowing down. Sustained at around ten thousand registrations per hour. Been like that for twenty hours now.
For comparison back in October there used to be only about 50 registrations per hour.
Hello new people! 👋
If you need help getting started on Mastodon, have a look at:
It's written in non-technical language, it's a beginner's guide.
If you can't find the answers you want on the site, @ me or message me.
Coach: Today is a repeat of Open 20.2. If you did that one, you should try to match or beat your score today.
Me after warm-up: Yeah. Nope. Not feeling it. Will def go slow today.
<20min later>
Coach: How did you all do?
Me: I missed my old result by….one rep. 🤷🏼♂️😅
Why do I always underestimate my performance/capacity when it comes to physical activity? Maybe I should read a book about sports mental exercises or something, but so far they’ve all been so boring. 😜
It's almost time for my next adventure! 🏔️ About a month until the flight leaves for Mendoza. 😲 In other words, it's time to build a playlist! As usual I try to add songs that are "on topic" or from the place I'm going.
So, dear internet - what's your best songs about, from or "set in" #Argentina ?
(Yes, "Don't cry for me Argentina" is of course on the list already 😄 so is "Fritiof and Carmencita" by Taube)
