Make the net weird again. Hand write sites like it’s the 90s. Pick interesting domain names and make fan sites or random knowledge known to everyone. Don’t monetize anything. Spearhead new protocols like Gemini. Make mods for games on your site. Make FAQs for obscure games no one knows about. Make public software services available to anyone. Make a news site about a really random subject. Create music in all kinds of different formats. Most of all, do it because you want to!
@fuuma handwritten sites you say? https://handwritten.blog/ 😁

Laid-Off: A Day in the Life

@rafial @fuuma wondering if there's a way to convert it to text, as well, and include that as the ALT text for the images. That'll make it readable by blind/low vison people and make it indexable too.
@billwesterman @fuuma the guy doing has separate transcripts that are linked at the bottom https://handwritten.blog/2022-10-01-hyperlinks-in-handwriting-transcript.html
handwritten.blog: ?REDO FROM START

Welcome to the new blog!

@billwesterman @fuuma apparently the MacOSX preview app has pretty good OCR

@fuuma and because you CAN!

(This is why I advocate for an Open Internet)

@fuuma I'm going to try and contribute to this by making a Doctor Who fan site / database #DoctorWho
@fuuma spend ten years working on a gane no one else will p... where did all these users come from?!?
@fuuma are you soliciting replies that contain weirdnet websites?

@fuuma If you like artisanal HTML http://waynewerner.com is (mostly) completely hand rolled, including my RSS feed πŸ₯³

(I also have a RSS feed on my gopher hole: gopher://gopher.waynewerner.com)

Enemy at the Gates - Wayne's Domain

@fuuma I love this idea. The web was so much fun back in the 90's before corporate America turned it into what it is today. I made several very very amateur websites back then and it was so much fun. It was about fun and learning then. Now it's mostly about advertising.
@fuuma This vibe is exactly why I designed my archive site the way I did. I even have a Guestbook. http://oldtaku.neocities.org

@fuuma
Take me back to the days of warrior cats roleplay websites made by pre-teens they were the absolute shit
@fuuma And let’s bring back Hamster Dance! 🐹🐹🐹🐹
@fuuma "Make FAQs for obscure games no one knows about." How'd ya know? https://www.ndhfilms.com/other/streetsofsimcity
@fuuma I hope I kept some of those ideals. When I started @lucire 25 years ago, it was all hand-coded. Today, all the feature stories still are, with the same file naming convention. Our work sites are still often done old school. Feels more satisfying, even if the sites arenΚΌt all mobile-friendly.
@fuuma make web rings for extremely obscure 80's anime only like 7 people have watched and 3 of whom actually enjoyed it
@kyletsetso @fuuma Yes! Web-Rings, Iβ€˜m thinking about them more and more now that Google is completely useless when it comes to finding quality content.
@fuuma This is now one of my most loved post in the internet. And yes, let’s do it.
@fuuma
I've been slowly writing a user reference for the Dialog interactive fiction language and hosting it on my gemini capsule. It's really fun to have something purely for me with the thought that maybe, one day someone will stumble upon it and find it useful.
@fuuma That was inspiring as hell. Thank you.
@fuuma make computing fun again!
@fuuma I am writing a web novel which I illustrate with homebaked generative art https://boris-marinov.github.io/x-notes/

@fuuma I have a strong desire to have this read in the cadence and style of this classic: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sTJ7AzBIJoI

@fuuma it is time for the anime web forum to return from the tomb
@fuuma the second I started reading this, I was thinking #gemini
@fuuma I’m trying to translate the Slash’EM Guidebook into Spanish, for newcomers. I assume everyone under 30 has a basic understanding of the Engish language, enough to win a PokΓ©mon game in a Gameboy/DS or to join a MMORPG.
@fuuma it’s funny you posted this I bought this domain the other day: str-e.art - I was gonna use it for url shortening but now I might also chuck some art on it too.
@fuuma we need to bring back site rings
@fuuma Oof yeah i remember the wild days with people ripping music in MP3 and later OGG and other formats. Soo many platforms to try and play with. Honestly a bit less centralized might actually be a good thing.
@fuuma This is part of why I love these federated communities. It reminds me of the earlier days of the Internet.
@fuuma when everything converges again on monoliths, I hope that we can unify better this time, with better standards, business models, governance, and content moderation so that we can get past the mis/disinformation.
Yesh! Like teeth.net anybody remember that one? The rumor was it was Perry Farrel's web site.

@fuuma gemini is pretty cool. I have hopes that http://supertxt.net reduces things further towards a much more simple system relying on OS instead of reinventing it, like the web did and gemini does to a more limited degree.
@fuuma I mean, this, but without the... look, I remember the 90s and I had fun in college then but there was a lot of bad shit on the internet then too. And all of today's "woke" stuff? We weren't smart enough to do that then. If you were in any way "too different" you were fucked and by "too different" I don't mean "has tentacles and eats babies", I mean "female" or "not white" were *more* than enough to get you into that category. Today is *better*. Believe me.
Interestingly, Gemini doesn't necessarily want to be "free" like the 90s, but more clean
@fuuma Do you want GeoCities? Because that's how you get GeoCities.
@fuuma i could never get on board with gemini, they just do way too many things wrong
@fuuma @revengeday I love this approach. Nope I have to make myself a website again. Domain is already there. :)
@fuuma geocities weird or would that be too much?
@randomdude @fuuma Fountain screenplays in bookshelves in MineTest weird. https://fountain.io
@fuuma Yes. Concentrated Old Internet People vibies for y'all.
@fuuma Bring back webrings and guestbooks and site visitor counters and under construction gifs! :)

@fuuma

you mean like we should ..

@fuuma I’m going to inflict my poetry on people again. You’ve inspired me to use the name Jeltz.
@fuuma Check out neocities.org and make a dumb fansite with a webring
@fuuma kinda crazy but it's like that got pushed down to the dark web... or maybe just the dim web (is that a thing?) when people that were on the internet were (on average) not capable of running a site. . then it went to geocities and they could make any artistic choice, then it went to fb, where they could change a little formatting. Then we were in hell.
