I hate this idea of "internet echo chambers" or "social media bubbles". So instead of hanging out with friends, I should be looking for people I dislike? You think this medium where you can talk with people from vastly different places and backgrounds is somehow more biased than groups based around same place, same work, same family, same church?

Obviously you should not have your friends as your sole source of information, and treating social networks as if it were "journalism" is a bad idea.

But the issue isn't with "echo chambers", it is with _platforms_ that take editorial action with zero responsibility. They will filter what you see, and will do it not based on an analysis of what they are publishing, but explicitly in order to manipulate you (which they do poorly, but the side effects are still dire). That is why it will reinforce harmful beliefs and isolate people.
